Gov‘t Report. faking Powder ABSOLUTELY PURE Dear Index:—As Trustees we desire to make a statement to your readers in reference to the Southern Baptist College now being erected at Manchester. When the Southern Female College of LaGrange failed to come to this place, the projectors of the Southern Baptist College for women, saw an opportunity which they believed to be unsurpassed in the history of our Southern country to build and equip a Baptist institu tion of learning without any actual cost to the denomination. After con sultation with several leading Bap tists a contract was entered into ■with the Manchester Investment Cempany, by which was secured a donation of a most beautiful tract of land containing about twenty-five acres, and $55,000 of the company’s stock at par value, the proceeds of which are to be used in the erection of a building on these grounds. The contract reads as follows : Atlanta, Ga., April 21st 1892. To Manchester Investment Com pany, Atlanta, Ga. Gentlemen, if you will donate twenty-five acres of land more or less, located in Manchester, near At lanta, Ga., known as the land sur veyed and set apart for Southern Female College and fifty-five thou sand ($55000) dollars capital stock of the .Manchester Company pro ceeds to be used in the erection of the build ng on said land as follows : I agree to advance SSOOO on siad stock and commence the building of the college to be known as the Southern Baptist College for the education of women, and expend the SSOOO at once and push the building to completion as fast as this stock can be turned into cash. This college is to be known and run as a Baptist Institution, controlled by trustees selected by Dr. J. B. Hawthore and myself two thirds ($) of whom are to be Baptists, se lected from Baptist Churches of Atlanta and Georgia, and of the South, and the other one (|) third to be citizens of Atlanta, of Georgia and of the South, they to perpetuate themselves. This prop erty will be perpetuated as a Baptist Institution of learning. The deed to the above described college land tc tte made direct from Manchester Investment Co., to the truestees, ''they having the power to sell off any .part of this land they may not believe to bo necessary to reserve for college grounds, the proceeds therefrom to be nted in improving the college prop erty.
