Highest of all hi Leavening Power.—Latest U. S. Gov’t Report
ABSOLUTELY PURE
AUGUSTA NOTES-
The Aucusta dolesjation who at
ended the Southern Baptist Conven
tion, have all returned, and report a
good time at Nashville. The first
chnrch is proud of its pastor, and
the leading part which he and others
of its members took in the proceed
ings of that body. The name of
Miss Mary Emily Wright appears
prominently among the women work
workers, and we can safely say that
there are but few, if any, more de
voted to Foreign Missions than this
talented and consecrated young lady.
She is not a dreamer, but a worker—
anil an aggressive one at that—and
eternity alone will tell the amount
of good she is doing in the Master's
cause. Fully and freely has she
consecrated her tongue, her pen, her
means, her heart, and her life, as far
as in her power lies, to the cause of
Foreign Missions. But she does not
stop at this. Iler heart has been
touched by the needs of the negro
race around and about her, and near
her beautiful home on the Sand Hills,
she gathers them every Sunday, and
points them to that Saviour who
died for all mankind.
A mistake was made in announc
ing that Rev. J. S. Patterson filled
his pulpit at Bureau on Sunday last.
Bro. Patterson was at the convention
and his place was filled by Rev. W.
B. Grandy who preached to Bro.
Walker’s people during the latter’s
absence at the Seminary. Bro. Gran
dy is an earnest preacher of the
Word and a man of lovely Christian
character.
Services were held in all our
curchcs on Sunday. At the mother
church Dr. Burrows preached a
strong sermon from Phill. 1: 6, his
theme being “Salvation, A Good
Work.”
Pastors Walker, Patterson, and
Collier preached to their charges
morning and night. The writer ad
dressed the Curtis brethren at night.
Calvary Sunday-school and the
Chinese Mission were also in full
operation.
'l'he City Mission Board has be
gun meetings in the Southern part
of the city, and it is the hope of the
brethren that their efforts in that
field will result in the establishment
of a regular mission Station. There
is need of such work in the south
east section, down in the First Ward
but the Board is so cramped financi
ally that it cannot see its way clear
to rent rooms for that purpose. Dr.
Holliday is making a wise and con
servative President, and is the right
man for the place.

NO MORE CATARRH-
AS SOON AS THE TRUTH IS KNOWN
AEOU I DE-HU-NA.
A person who has not given Te
ru-na a fair trail is unfortunate in
deed. To be atllictcd with chronic
catarrh and not try Pe-ru-na is as
foolish as to have the old-fashioned
chills and fever and refuse to try
quinine, or to have a broken bone
and not allow the doctor to set it-
Pe-ru-na has come to be so univeiy
sally recognized as a specific cure
for catarrh acute or chronic,
that it is amazing that any one
should continue to suffer on with
such a loathsome malady, neglect
ing to take a course of treatment
with it. Os course it may be that
many people have not yet coine to
know of his great catarrh remedy,
but it is strange that it should be so
after such multitudes have been cur
ed by it and so many papers have
heralded it from one end of the coun
try the other. Men and women of all

ages and rank, the riehjand poor, the
learned and illiterate daily giving
unsolicited testimony to the fact
that Peruna will cure catarrh.
And yet even this good news
travels comparatively slow. The tens
of thousands of people who have
been cured arc only a small who are
still suffering from chronic catarrh in
some form. Many have no time to
read others do not care to read,a few
do not believe what they read. Thesg
causes continue to retard the spread
of the greatest medical boon to suf
fering humanity that has ever yet
been discovered. But the news trav
els faster and every month, and no
one can fail to see that the time is
not far distant when Peruna will be
known and blest in every household
in the land.

ing Company of Columbus, Ohio.
Among the reccommendations
made by the Centennial committee in
their report was that the Centennial
period be extended to Novembe, 18-
93.
Several of the State Conventions,
Georgia among them, had anticipated
this suggestion of the committee by
voting to extend the time.
Kentucky, Alabama, Florida and
Louisiana have pledged the full
amount asked of them. It is to be
hoped that our efforts to raise the
8200,000 will not be relaxed, and
that November will find the amount
fully made up. Rev. W. D. Powell
reports 8133,000 in cash and
pledges.
He is hopeful that when the bal
ance shoot is struck the sum will not
fall far short of 8200,000.

AN INTERESTING LETTER EIIOM MB. W. 8.
JONES, OF BUSSELL VILLE.
“Gut of the abundance of the heart
the mouth speaketh,” so I will tell
you again that the Electropoise is
tho great medical wonder of the age.
1 have never known any remedial
agent that' compares with it. In my
own case it almost raised mo
from the dead. Life was a burden, I
had little or no appetite. My physical
strength was all gone. I walked
with great difficulty. My speech was
broken and my language lame. My
friends say that it has renewed my
youth and that I walk with the vigor
of a young man. lam erect of form
and my lameness has departed. I
sleep as well as in my infancy. I am
no longer troubled with trembling
quivering nerves, for they obey my
will. They no longer interfere with
my speech or disturb my walk. I
am hopefull vigorous and cheerful.
It lias done for others what it has
done for me. My sister, .Mrs. Wat
kins, was almost a living skeleton,
she was prematurely old, badly crip
pled, and had no appetite, slept very
badly. She too has gained her youth
through the great and wonderful in
fluence of the Electropoise, walks
erect and rapidly, eats well and sleeps
as quietly and gently as an infant
upon upon its mother’s bosom. She
astonishes all her friends as she is a
living workingtalking specimenof the
power of the the great instrument.
Tho Electropoiso has been known
to mo for some time, not only in my
own case and that of my sister but
I have also seen its action on others.
It is the greatest invention of the
century. It restores health without
medicine. It never reduces but al
ways adds to the vigor, both of bod y
and mind. Takes away the pains of
rheumatism. Relieves euiaely from
neuralgia. Cures chills and 1 may
say all other diseases to which the
human family is heir. It blesses
with a healthy appetite, takes away
the decrepitude of age and restores
the vivacity of youth. Beneath its
plastic power age loses its w rinkles
and palor and regains the glow of
youth. 1 therefore commend it to
all people everywhere.
Respectfully,
W. b. Junes.

Ou account of the failing health
of his wife, Rev. E. Ward, pastor of
tho First Baptist Church, Brenham-
Texas, has resigned. During his
pastorate a new bouse of worship
has been built, and about sixty per
sons have been baptized.
THE CHRISTIAN INDEX: THURSDAY MAY 25, 1893.
LET BRETHREN REMEMBER'
The Southern Baptist Convention
instructed the Boards to push the
Centennial collection to completion.
Much has been pledged which is
still to be paid. Several states have
by vote of their Conventions, pro
tracted the time of raising their
quota, and in others only partial
work has been done. The Boards
will,as instructed by the Convention
put some man in the place of broth
er Powell. It will take a little time
for the Boards to act. The prop
er man must be secured—who is he?
is the question to be decided. Mean
time let our brethren everywhere
push forward the work as planned
and ordered by the Convention.
