To provide for tho call nf a dor vention to reduce tb«
number of the General Assembly of the State ot
(ieorgia.and tor other purposes therein named.
Be it enacted by the Senate anti House cf Representa
tires of the Slate of Georgia in General Assembly met, an.
it is henby enacted by the authority of the same, That tio
first Monday in Apul, eighteen hundred and thirty
ihr-e, be, and the same is hereby designated and s. -
apart as ll»e day on which the citizens ut Georgia qua!
ified to vote for members ol the Legislature, shall at
the several peaces prescribed by law for holding finch
elections, vote for delegates to represent them in Con
vention, in number equal to 1 heir representation in both
branches of the General Assembly; such elections t..
ho conducted, managed and certified under the same-
laws as are of force in respect to elections of members
of the General Assembly.
See. 2. .7 nd be it farther enacted, That it shall he the
duty of such managers to transmit to hid Excellency
the Governor the result of said elections under the
laws now of force for conducting, managing and certi
fying elections of members of the General Assembly ss
aforesaid, within thirty days after such elections—
Whereupon it is made the duty of His Excellency the
Governor to issue his proclamation declaring the result
of said ejections by naming the individuals severally
elected to represent the good people of Georgia, in
Convention as contemplated by this act.
Sec. 3. Jlndbe it further enacted, That every citizen
of the United .States shall be eligible to a seat in said
Convention who has attained the ope of twenty-live
'years, and been an inhabitant of this State seven yesJd
.immediately proceeding ihe day of his election and
, who shall have resided one year in the county lor
which he shall he elected.
; Sec. 4. Jlndbe it further enacted, That each member
returned ns duly cheicd, shall previous to taking hi*
seat in raid convention,take the followirgoath,<»r ufiir-
motion, viz: I, A. B. do solemnly swear, that I will not
attempt to add to or take from the constitution or at
tempt to change or niter any other section, clause or ar
ticle of thcconstitution of the State of Georgia, other
than those touching the representation in Ihe General
Assembly thereof; and that I have been a ciiizen of
this state for the Inst seven years, so help mo God.—•
And any person elected to a seat in said Convention,
who shall refuse t- take tho oath aforesaid, shall not
he allowed to tak* his s at in said Convention.
Sec. 5. find be Ujurlher enacted, That the members
of »nid Convention shall assemble on the first Monday
in May after their election, nt Milledgevjlle,in tho rep
resentative Chamber of the Stole House, for the pur
pose ofenteiing Upon and consummating the great ob-
jcc f s of their Convention, to wit • n reduction and
equalization of the General Assembly ; shall have pow
er to prescribe! their own rules and forms of business,
and to determine on tho qualifications of their own
members; elect necessary officers, and make oil or-
ders which they may drent conducive to the further
ance of the object for which such convention shall as-
scmble.
Sec. C. ,’lnd be it father enacted, That it shall lie the
duty of His Excellency the Governor, to give publicity
to the alterations and amendments made in the Con-
