Federalists, and unimpaired by the rtrongth-w'tvsting
refinements pf hare-liearted Republicans ; They up
hold State Sovereignty in a sensible form, and with

The compromise tnrifl’act of 1833, shall continue
to meet, our most .untiring and vindictivo opposition.
AVe consider it the result of a corrupt combination
for selfish purposes tflonc, and that it is the com.
iriepcemont of a Eystein of moasuros intended finally,
to reloase every article of luxury entirely from taxa
tion, and thereby to throw, the whole burden of tlio
rqvenua upon articles of prime necessity.
. For the spirit and ability with which wo-6hallat.
tack the principles of our adversaries and defend our
own, we must roibr our readers to tho Standard .from
its commencement to the present; with tho further
assurance, that wo fool an additional motive to in-
ejeasa our energies, from the very kind and indul.
gent manner, in which our feeble efforts, in a good
cause, have liecn regarded by a largo portion of-our
fellow-citizcns. --
; As soon as new, materials can be obtained, the pa
per will be enlarged, and every exertion mado to ren
der it an interesting and valuable Journal. In.the
