Wlicrciis, the people of Georgia have a
deep interest in the value of the Bills of the
Central Bank, said bills constituting a con
siderable portion of their currency fond not
only having an interest in the Bank, ns it
constitutes currency ; but being directly in-
». rested in its skilful management, as any
Jovs sustained to said institution either by
negligence or mismanagement, will fall di
rectly on them. And Whereas, the Gov
ernor by bis communication has recommend-
td the Legislature, ns an act of justice to the
(poplc. and officers having charge of llio
Bank, that a strict and impartial scrutiny
inio «heir acts ns officers be made:
Be it therefore Resolved, That the House
of Representatives appoint a Committee to
join such Committee as may be appointed
on the part of the Senate, to investigate the
circumstances, resources and liabilities of
Kiid Bank, with full power to send for per
sons and papers, and that they have full and
free access to all papers and books pertaining
to said institution, and that said Committee
repoit to the Legislature the result of such
investigation, tile nature of resources, the
means of resumption ofspecie payment, and
that they suggest in their opinion the most
speedy method of doing the same, and when
in their opinion the same may be accom

“The Orion.”
The first number of volume second, if a fair spe
cimen of what are to follow, may be taken as an
earnest of one of the most beautiful, and attractive
volumes ever published at the South. It is embel
lished with a handsome title page, and a superb
colored engraving of Tabic Rock Mountain, in
South Carolina. From the hasty glance we have
found time to make over its pages, we judge that
its literary merits are at least equal to the prece-
numhers.

“The Magnolia.”
Constant occupation during the past week lias
prevented us from perusing the November number
of the Magnolia, and we ate unable, therefore, to
do much more than tender otu acknowledgements
for the reception of the number.' In glancing over
the editorial department, which is, as usual, well
filled, wc were attracted by the title of “ Mesme
rism,” and forthwith read a very candid and inter
esting notice ofthis wonderful science. Wc propose
to copy it in our next, for the benefit of our readers.
This science is now engaging public attention in
almost all our cities, and though probably viewed
member of the last graduating Class, of Franklin
College. From the intimate relationship which for
the last three years, existed between the .writ-jr of!
this obituary and the deceased, he feels fully assu
red, that no young man ever deserved belter of
universal regard and esteem. Kind and benevo
lent in his disposition; honorable and upright in
his dealings ; generous and hospitable in his feel
ings, he attached to his interest and person, many
warm and faithful friends, who will long cherish
his memory, and regret with the tear of sympathy
ar.d sorrow, that one so young and so promising,
in all that pertains to usefulness in life, should be
thus in the bloom of youth and freshness, stricken
down by death’s unerring hand. As a student, he
knew no maiicc.nor did his bosom ever heave with
the restlessness of a depraved ambition. Laudable
in his purposes, and industrious in his endeavors to
prepare himself for usefulness and honor, he pos
sessed in an eminent degree, that elevation of
thought, principle, and feeling, which arc inseper-
ably connected with noble and generous minds.—
And although he made no religious profession
while in college, he was ever the constant and un
wavering friend of virtue and morality; and no
doubt, itt the hour of death found consolation in
reviewing & profitable and well-spent life. But the
deceased is no more, and may those who climbed
the rugged acclivity of science with him, and who
toiled to achieve the same object, remember the
uncertainty of life, and prepare, while yet they
iu«f, forth* awful and solemn hour of death, is the
earnest desire of A CLASSMATE.

There has been very little done in the
legislature as yet. The organizing of both
brandies of the General Assembly, and the
D ictions having consumed most of the
tune. There is much conjecture as to the
course that will be adopted in relation to the
LVnlral Bank, except that there will be a
scrutinizing examination into its actual con
dition. The Wl tigs desire it, and the Dem
ocrats arc equally anxious, and will, not
s!uink from it: and were I to predict what
would be done, il would be lo let Ibc Bank
go on gradually reducing its circulation,
calling in its dues hy annual payments of in
terest. and a proportion ol'the. nnncin.il. hy
an amount of reduction which can be borne

number of the most intelligent and scientific of the
country. We shall hereafter publish a portion of
the well authenticated experiments which we sec
