Resolved, That we will send delegates to the
Democratic Convention, to be held on the third
Wednesday of this instant, and recommend the
names of Johu Gray and L. A. McAfee Esqs., for
said delegates, and that they be empowered to
fill their vacancies, if they cannot attend.

length, by Joseph Dunnagan Esq., explanatory

rived from San Franersco, bringing dates
to May 7th, and one huudred thousand

has been destroyed by fire, and several
persons were believed to have perished
in the flames.
Two firemen who attempted to blow
up the steamer Sierra Nevada, but whose
scheme had been discovered, have been
arrested aud put in irons.

tninistmlinn ofGen. Pierce, convened at Carnes-
ville, Franklin county, on tbe first Tuesday in
June, Tor the purpose of nominating delegates to
a Convention of the party, to be held in Mil-
led Seville on the 3 ■ Wednesday iu this instant.
When, upon motion of Titos. Morris, Esq.,
William L. Poole, Esq., was called to the chair,
and Joseph N. Chandler appointed Secretary;
when Tho* Morris, Esq., moved that the (hair
appoint a committee ol five to report the names
ol tour suitable persons as delegates to said Con-
vent ion.
The cha'r appointed C'ol. John II. Patrick,
Hugh Crawford, Joshua Owens, Jiihn J. Sbep-
perd and Gen. E. W. Morris thut committee.

er to recommend those resolutions adopted by
our Democratic brethren of Troupe county, at a

old Democratic party, should yield to the great
fundamental am) permanent principles or the
party, in accordance with which ..this govern-

Resolved, That we regard tbe reorganisation
of the Democratic party,and the cordial re-uhion
of the two wings on term* of perfect equality,
a* essential to the promotion of its principles, aud
that we deem the triumph of those principles as

ity of the Union.

vention, to be held in Milledgevillo on
the 4tb Wednesday in Juno instant,
when, on motion, Jas. C. Branch, Esq.,
was called to the Chair, and John Calvin
Johnson appointed Secretary.
C. Peeples, Esq., made a few appro
priate remarks, and, on his motion, a
committee consisting of C. Peeples, Esq.,
Wm. M. Morton, E?q.. Dr. M. S. Dur
ham, Richard Richardson, Esq., and
Win. H. Dorsey, Esq., was appointed to
nominate delegetento said Gubernatorial
convention; which committee reported
to tbe meeting the names of C. Peeples,
Esq., Dr. M. S. Durham, Wm. M. Mor
ton, E.-q., and Wm. Dicken, Esq., as such
delegates to said Convention ; which
nomination was unanimously confirmed
by the meeting.

Rail Road Accident.
On Tuesday night last, about 11 o’clock,
as the Macon & Western Train was
passing James Vanvalkenburg’s resi
dence, two miles above litis city, on its
way down, it came iu contact with two
cows on the track, one of which was
thrown off by the cow-catcher, but the
other somehow got between the baggage
and passenger car by whicli the latter
was thrown offthe track, over a precipice
of 12 or 15 feet, and was smashed to
pieces. Nearly allthepassengers, about
thirty in number, were more or less
bruised and several severely injured.—
Michael Bohan who Was Brakeman and
Mail-guard on the train, was killed .in
stantly, and from the position lie was
fountain, it was manifest that his neck was
broken by some timber or iron falling

principal sufferers;
Hon. A. H. Stephens, left arm broken
and severe, contusions on the bead. Is

pronounce him out of danger. Mr, S.
was on bis way to defend a person charg.
