CHARLES A. PEABODY.
Columbus, Ga., Oct. 16,1856.
As z proof of the keeping qualities of this
New Strawberry, on the morning of the 9th
of May last, [Friday,] 1 picked a case of
the berries, took them to Columbus, six
miles, in my buggy, sent them from Colum
bus to Savannah, three hundred miles, by
railroad, and from Savannah to New York,
nine hundred miles, by steamer, to my
friends Messrs. I. M. Tliorburn fit Co.- The
following letter will show me condition of
the berries just one week alter they were
pulled.
New York, May 16, 1856.
Mr. Charles A. Peabody :
Dear Sir: The Strawberries came to hand
on the afternoon of Tuesday, sound, and in
very good condition, retaining an unusually
strong strawberry aroma. Their dark color
gives them a richer look, approximating to
the English Hautbois, grown there. The
berries have wilted down only a very little
up to this time, Friday morhing, May 16th.
Yours, truly,
J. M. TilOUBURN & Co.

It has been remarked by an intelligent
amateur,tbat this strawberry waa worths
place in a gentleman’s grounds, even if the
fruit was notedible, for the beauty of the
plant when in flower and fruit. We have had
no little experience in strawberry culture,
having devoted the last fifteen years of our
life almost exclusively to that one object.
We have produced many hundred seedlings,
and have in cultivation all the fine varieties
of Europe and America, but have never seen
any thing to compare with our New Haut
bois Seedling.
