On either ride of the chancel arch are
two elegant cathrien wheel windows,

Mr. Sharp.
The West end ia elan quire changed.
In place of the old sloping gallery,’which
reminded one of a huge bat with out

of IS panels, filled with rich tracery in
geometric figures. The whole is snpport

The side windows also have not es

heads, with traccried spandrels, in per

The designs, however, are not yet com

New York Failures.—Much ex
citement was occasioned in the New
York cotton market on Tuesday in
consequence of * he failure of several,
houses, and the rumored insolvency of j
several more. The small receipts of'
cotton last week, as compared with the
corresponding time last year, and the
fears of a short crop thereby engender
ed, together with the rise in Liverpool,
where the supply is scanty, has caused
: alarm for several days among those on
sh >rt interest in the market. This re-
; suited in the sudden and marked ad-
j vnnee in price, which seriously embar-
| r.isses those who are hampered hy con-
j tracts, and rendered some unable to
fulfill them. Three failures are officially
' announcod, viz: Wm. P. Wright &
■ Co.. Adolphus C. Schaefer &Co., and
I J. Seavcmlt. These failures resulted
j from the sudden advi.nce, rnd inability
to fill contracts. Other houses are in

Emmanuel Church.—The altera
tions, which lor some time past, have
been going on within this Church, are
now rapidly approaching completion.
The extensions consist of a recess chancel
17 by 10 feet 3 inches, with an organ room
on the north side (eccleriologicaily speak
ing), and a robing room on the south.
The exterior appearance haa not been
materially changed, save in the rear, but
within it is quite the contrary. Indeed,
»o radical is the change, one will scarce
recognize it as the Emmanuel Church of
only lost August. The alterations aro iu
decorated gothic style.
