Murder.
Brittain and his soh-ih-1
had a quarrel at Mrs.'
last Saturday,"which resulted iu the
death of Brittain. There were no wit
nesses, but Ford was seen leaving the!
house where Brittain was found dead,
with his throat cut. ^and a gash on
the back of his head. An inquest was
held before Coroner Wilkcrson, and thq
verdict was that the deceased come to
his death at the hands of Sam Ford, end
that tha crime was murder. Ford told s(
variety of tales, but after his arrest. »a
mitted the killing, and claimed that it
wee done in self-defence.. The ntu;
was arrested and brought to town by ne
groes in the neighborhood. It itas been
suggested that the proper authorities
should reward them for their conduct, as
an incentive to others’to follow thotr good
example.
Ford was arraigned for trial on yes
terday. - ’ - „i?
