And Dispnitrr* of Family Medicines, all attention Governor Palmer and the Ltn- kral Movement.—Gov. Palmer, of Washington, April 2S.—Since the commencement of the present ses sion of Congress the President has ap proved thirty-three bills which origin ated in the Senate, and one hundred and twenty in the House. Several ~YSTOP LI) respectfully bills of a private character were veto- ' ’ t ■ tti«ird.-;.i led. Since the commencement of the I present Congress, one thousand and | forty-five bills have been introduced in i the Senate, and two thousand live ! hundred and sixty-nine in the House, together with one hundred and forty joint resolutions. The number of bills jiassed by the House and now awaiting the action of the Senate is three hun dred aud sixty-nine, and the number took no part in favor of removing the by ,tie ^tatc Court House, a«<S one who represents the interests of those desiring a new •county. We believe a large majority of our citizens are willing that question islature, and that tlie Iieprtsent.itiv* We recommend to the conductors of the Atlanta German Society the careful perusal of the article on Immi gration to the South, alluded to in a iionld lie fairly presorted to the Leg- letter we print in another column and trust that it will cordially support to he elected shall be selected in that j the policy fully advocated in that pa- interest. Seymour got 2,703,-600. G nmt’s majority was 300,288. In other words, the Democratic party in 1*08 polled 471 j>«r cent, of the entire vote. Tlitst vote remains to this day, as has been shown by every election held from that time to this—united, unshaken and solid. Every man of them who vot'd against Grant in 1808 will vote against him in 1872. In all t! frtaiterociiLs are false. When a majority publish a call the meeting can he had.” Our readers a'ready know tlie opinion which we entertain of the Chairman, of the Democratic Nation- Union. from the Atlantic to the j al Executive Committee. We had it Pacific, the party has stood true to its from his own ni0,,t1 '' Ia:,t summer, principles and its organization, and has ii"! lost a man, nor -liould it be lor- gotten that its voting strength has been decisively increased in -evcrnl of the larger Southern Slate.- by the re-en franchisement of -< ores of thousands of voters, who w re not ]>oriiiitted to vote in l*tj8. In Missouri, for in stance, wliich gave Grunt a majority of over 25,00(1, tiie Democrats have in t hi s way gained 60,000 votes, and the fifteen electoral votes of that State will certainly lie cast against Grant. And so iii ’ii•nnc.-sM', which gave Grant •>!).-I «ti major, y. the Democrats have gained over 70,000 votes, and arc ceP- lain of it- e!. \en electoral votes. And the -ani" i- true, more or less, of every one of ;l,e Southern States. And we verily believe that if a fair election should he held, a straight Democratic ticket w ould get a majority of all the vote.- in tlie Union. But the Republican party has, at the same time, lieen ns certainly los ing strength. And the Administra tion itself no longer pretends to make light of tlie defection, which is repre sented by such leaders as Trumbull, Adams, Gratz Brown, Judge Davis, Fenton, Greeley, Schurz, and other distinguished leaders, who were the founders of the Republican party, and long its most powerful supporters.— Its most hopeful advocates only hope that the Liberal Republicans will act «o unwisely as to prevent a co-ojieration between themselves and a sufficient number of the Democrats to neutralize that he was no longer a ‘ National Democrat,’ and lie has no right to he controlling the action of the Democrat ic masses. Honor and common lion csty forbid it. Will the Democracy submit to this much longer. Loch- Georgia Bonds.—Judge rane, attorney for Henry Clews & Co., touching their interest in Georgia bonds, remained over in Washington on bis return from New York, where he has lieen during the session of the Bond Committee, recently convened there for the purpose of investigating tile bonded intebtedness of Georgia.— He speaks highly of the fidelity and accuracy of their investigations, and lias no doubt their report will lie sat- islactory to the people, as it will show the lunded indebtedness less by one- liulf tlmn was anticipated. In Loch- rane’s opinion it will show tlie State’s debt to be about S17,00U,000, nil told, and he has no hesitation in stating that the people will do justice to every bona fide bond holder who has advanced moDey contributing to the State’s de velopment. Col. L. J. Glenn was unani mously nominated for the Legislature by the Democracy of Fulton on Satur day last. lie will make a glorious standard-bearer, and a first-class Leg islator. His election is a foregone conclusion. As many of our planters keep their smoke-houses in the West, it will in terest them to know that the supply of meat is likely to lie ample, provided they can make their crop liens long and strong enough to reach it. The Superintendent of the Cincin nati Chnmber of Commerce, has just completed his Fork Packing Statistics of the West for the seasons of 1871-72. The following arc the numbers of hogs packed in each of the different States named, which very nearly embrace* all packed the entire season: Ohio, 842,758; Indiana, 551,745; Illinois, 1,607,718 ; Kentucky, 342,522 ; Ten nessee, 37,517 ; Missouri, 693,541; Iowa, 270,806 ; Kansas, 40,518 ; Ne braska, 3,757 ; Wisconsin, 326,618 ; Minnesota, 21,000; West Virginia, 6,500; Pittsburg, Pa., 5,300; De troit, 28,000; Atlanta, Ga., 13,100. Ton—4,782,403. The aggregate net weight was 1,079,704,764 pounds.— The total product of lard was 184,552,- 627 pounds ; total green sides, should ers and hams, 755,793,334 pounds; increase over previous year, 17,724,- 604 pounds. The gains of tlie season of 1871 and 1872 over the previous year arc as fol lows : Increase- in whole nunilier of hogs, according to count, 1,158,999; increase per cent, in number 3,198 ; increase of whole number of hogs, ac cording to weight, 1,110,003; increase per cent, in aggregate gross weight, 3,063 ; increase in aggregate yield of lard, pounds 47,899,446; increase per ' cent, aggregate yield of lard, 3,505. Tlie total costs of hogs for the re- spective seasons were as follow : For 1870 and 1871 was 865,518,123 ; for 1871 and 1872 was 55,818,711.— From this it appears that notwith standing the extraordinary increase in the number of bogs, the amount of money actually required to purchase them was §9,699,412 less in the late season than during the proceeding one. then Spirits Turpentine have been quiet with sales making only into con sumptive channels, at 60 cents jier gal lon. Rosins are firm, and tlie stock in yards has lieen reduced to 15,000 bar rels. Tar and Pitch are unchanged, and prices are somewhat nominal. Backing Down.—It is stated that Grant aud Fish have concluded not to pro?g the demand for conditional dam ages upon tho Geneva Conference.—- Public sentiment in this country lias lieen so strongly manifested against the policy as well as justice of the demand, that the administration finds it neces sary to recede. Natleb, April 29.—The fires of Mount Vesuvius are slackening. A new crater opened to-day, but with every fresh opening now the violence of the eruption seems to abate. Yes terday the entire mountain was con cealed from sight by the smoke which settled around it. This morning tlie heavens were darkened by dense clouds of smoke and ashes, and a strong Wind carried showers of burning cinders and old scoria as far as Scofatc and Poler- nio. The precaution was taken to flood the government powder magazine at Scofatc. The volume of the lava stream, near San Sebastian, is sixteen feet, deep, and the village is still in danger. The devastation has been terrible. Thou sands of acres of cultivated lands have been overwhelmed by ashes and lava, and vineyards and farms are buried out of sight. The loss of life must have beon heavy, but it is impossible to ascertain tho number of tho victims, c AMERON MIXED GLOSS l’AINT COMPANY. Manufacturers of Mixed Gloss Paint.
