MUSES RETREAT. L O VISA. A SONG. [From Mr. Fawcett’s Poems.) A S with Louisa late I fat, In yonder secret grove, How fondly did each bosom beat, And pour its talc of Love ! Eve’s tuneful bird, with sweetest lay, Infpir’d the tranquil place; Eve’s silver Star, with purest rav, Beam’b on the chaste embrace. But now the tender feene is o’er, What tongue my grief can tell? In yonder grove I meet no more The Maid I love so well ! Yet (fill, at Evening’s cuftom’d hour, With feelings fadlv sweet, I seek in Love’s forfaken bower My solitary feat. There Philomela’s tuneful tongue Still soothes my pensive heart; Ah 1 ’tis the fame melodious song Louisa lov’d to hear! And still I joy to make the while, The Star of Venus fliine, Which saw the blush, the tear, the smile, That spoke Louisa mine ! Her dear idea finely tied To each lov’d objeft there—> I still behold her at my fide, And clasp the lliadow) Fair. EPITAPH ON A ROHER. Here bows to earth, where all must bow, A man devoid of care; Who ate and drank —the Lord knows how! And lodg’d— the Lord knows where!
