Round my neck the braid I tie': Not the radiant diamond clear, Nor orient pcails, with thee tan vie, Or form a neckahe half so dear. CHARACTER OF A TERMIGANT. SHE (peaks poignards, and every word Rabs. If her breath were as terrible as her terminations, there were no living near her file would infefl the north Rar. I would not marry her, tho’ Hie were en dowed with all that Adam had left him be fore lie tranfgreflcd. She wouid have made Hercules have turned spit; yea, and have cleft his club to make the fire too.— Should flic come this way, will you com mand me any service to the world’s end? 3 would go on the flighted errand to the antipodes, that you can devise to feud me f;n. I will fetch you a tooth picker from tlh hyrhelt inch in A fin; bring \oti the length of J’rt fler John’s foot; fetch you a hair of tne great Cham’s beard, do you any rmbalTage to the pigmies, rather than hold three words of conlerreuce with the hap- Shakespere. THE TRUE AMBITION OF A N H ONES T MIN D. WERE I to deferibe the blessings I de sire in life, I would be happy in a few, but faithful friends. Might I choose m\ * iknt, it fliould rather be good sense than learning, I .would consult, in the choice of my hhnle, convenience rather than Rate; and for mv cir; umftances, desire a moderate but independent fortune. Bu hnels enough to fecure.me from indolence, and leifurc enough alway s to have an hour io (pare. I would have no inafler, and 1 ddire but few servants, I would not be led away by ambition, nor perplexed with dHpufcs. I would enjoy the bleiling of health, but would rather be beholden for it to a regular life and an easy mind, than the school of Hippodrates. As to my pas sions Once we cannot be wholly dive Red of them, 1 won Id hate only those whole manners and aftions rendered them odi ous, and love only where I know I ought. 1 hus wood I pal< chearfully througli that portion of my life vs hich cannot laR al ways, with refignatiotvwau for that which will hR forever. ANECDO TE S. A GENTLEMAN nfked a Shepherd, whether that river might he paßed over or rot?
