ANECDOTE.
THE love of long chriftian names by
M the Spaniards has frequently been an ob
|B je& of ridicule. A Spaniard on his trav
-1(1 els arrived in the night-time at a little vil
li ] a ge in France, in which there was but one
ij hotel. As it was almost midnight, he
B knocked at the door a long while with-
B out hearing any one stir. At length the
B host putting nis head out of his chamber
window, asked who was there. I lie
Spaniard replid, “ Don Juan, Pedro, Her-
B mandez, Rodriguez, Alvarez de villa-nova,
I Count de Malafra, Cavellero de Santiagog.
I il'Alcantara.” “ Mercy on me,” said the
I iioft as he fliut the window, “ I have but
J two spare beds, and do you alk me lodging
I for a score ?”
