A CATECHETICAL COMPEND !
OF
GENERAL HISTORY,
(SACKED AND PROFANE)
from the Creation of the World, to the
Year 1817, of the Christian Era.
By FREDERICK BUTLER, A. M.
PRICE 37 1-2 CENT'S.
The following opinion of the work was ex
pressed by the lion. John Treadwell, late
Lieutenant Governor of Connecticut:—
“ At request 1 have perused Butler’s Com
pend of General History, and think it prom
ises to improve the system of Education in
our common Schools, and of course is wor
thy of liberal patronage. It presents to the
young miud, as in a general map, the whole
ground of the science of History, while it
places those faets in the strongest light
which are the most interesting or impor
tant; and it will, I think, prove the basis of
an orderly and progressive improvement in
more mature life. It will bring the learn
er to an early acquaintance with the Histo
rical and prophetical parts of sacred Scrip
tore, and in many events shew the aecom- 1
plishment of the latter; and it will serve to !
keep in view the government of God in gen- j
erat. in subserviency to the interest of his :
Church.”
