TO THE TEREIC.
IN the Chronicle of the 29th ultimo,
I am charged by P. H. Carnes,
with having advertised for sale a
part of HIS land—Justice to mvself,
and those whose agent 1 am, requires
l hat 1 should declare Mr. Carnes’
statement, using a milder term than
it deserves, to be erroneous—The
foundations upon which P H. Carnes
pretends to predicate his claim, are
these—the first following of which
he has m‘ re than once affirmed in
u>V presence—that by a recent survey
of his tract of land, he says he finds
a small deficiency, without refleeting
upon the natural cause which might
have produced this dimunition in
quantity, (namely, the near approach
of the bed of the river to the Georgia
shore) and secondly, the rumour
which has for some time prevailed,
that the present proprietors of Lot,
No 12, from their apparent neglect of
it, were supposed not lo b« iu posses
sion oi good JSf sufficient titles—-nd
thereby, from the circumstance of the
lot being situated contiguous to lug
tract, connected with the foregoing rea
sons constitute his whole clum to it :
Common report affirms P H Carnes
lo be already in pos-ession of ; greater
number of acres than his pi n ealls
for, without touching the Let No. '2.
Judgment was obtained iu the Fe
deral Court in 1816, against Major
George Wa Iton, and possession of
said Lot No 12. given to the proprie
tors by the Federal Marshal in April
last—l'his Lot is of cuuise, still, as
heretofore, offered for sule—General
warranty titles will be given to the
purchase ; and if contested by P. H.
Carnes, who has nut the shadow of a i,
! title, he will be firmly opposed by
those who know how to estimate us
well as defend their rights.
