1 announces to the public, ihnt he
did commence on the 2d of July last,
to erect a town named Hamburg, in
'ioulh-Caroliua, opposite Augusta,
on the Savanuah river, and has suc
ceeded with the aid and assistance
of his friends, to erect 78 buildings;
among which there is a ware house
of 50 by 300 feet, for cotton and to
bacco ; also a spacious and conven
ient building 50 by 70 feet, for a pub
lic In.use, and a number of spaciotia
stores, some of which are 40 by 60
feet, ail of which are calculated for
different branches of business. The
stores and ware-house are from 2 to
3 feet above the level of the streets
in Augusta, aud considered perfee ly
safe from all damages of freshes.
The ware house ranges up and down
the river, within 80 feet of the river
bank—3o stores arc fronting the
ware house, in (lie same direction, be
tween which there is a street of 200
feet, intended for a market street. By
the construction of the ware-housa
there will be no expense of dray-
age. There is a good and safe boat
landing at present, and substantial
wharves will ere long be errected to
facilitate tlie loading and nr loading
of boats. The ware-house is also con
sidered free from all danger of sue—.
and two more are now building of lha
same dimensions, and in (he same di
rection ou the bank of the river, in
which there are departments calcu
lated for close storage of Salt, Gro
ceries. Iron, <g*e. There is also a
Post-Office esiahiishe d, out r.f which /
letters can be received earlier than
in Augusta, and w hich will be kept
open two hours later than the o i.ee
tbre, which will afford great con
venience to merchants, as they can
answer their letters by the return
mail. There will ulso be a saving
of sales at Aucti n of 2 to 3 per cent,
less than in Augusta. The rate ~f
storage of Cotton, Tobacco. <Sjv. ia
about half the rates as charged in
Augusta. In about one quarter of n
mile from the river, the ground ele
vates about 60 feet, which affords
handsome and hr<hy situations for
summer residence, on which there are
a number ol springs of as g. nd wa
ter as this country affords. 2300 bales
of cotton have been pureliastd end
