No summer girl, no summer dresses, no summer season. But when June came matters rhanged for the better. The sun shone out and brightened everything and everybody. Dewey had proved that tr-Spanisb fleet could be smashed as easily as a basket lof eggs. Tho phantom cruisers that had been hovering along our coasts wore bottled up in Santiago de Cuba. Then the summer girl plucked up heart and orb red her seaside costumes, stop nlng in her shopping to wave a fond adieu to the brave boys who marched or sailed off to the front. Presently the railway stations were blockaded with express wagons, laden with those huge, square trunks that mean so much to the women who paek them and the men who pay for their con-^ *ridE3 -A.
