The funeral services were r>ad by Rev. O. M. Abney, the pastor of the Method.at rhuroh. The pall bearers were Capt. N. Christensen. Capt. C. C. Townsend Messrs. I). W. Crocker. ,T. Jackson, S. M. It was intended to rush the d>trainees cf th n court so as to enable Judge Benet lo leave for a visit to bis ag.d mother in Scotland. SOLICITOR DEAL’S ELECTION. He fs Chosen as Secretary of the Executive Committee. Statesboro. Ga.. July 23.—The elec tion of Solicitor A. M. Deal ati perma nent secretary of the executive com mittee of the First congressional dis trict w-aa a happy selection. Mr. Deal is a young man of splendid ability and he will add many votes from Bulloch county to Col. Lester's big majority at the October election. Bulloch was the only county in the district that gave Col. Herrington a primary, but she Is none the less a friend to Col. Lester. Her love for fairness In all things caused dter to do this, and the nomination c f Mr. Deal by Hon. W. W. Sheppard, shews that Mr. Lester ap preciated her action as well as Mr. Herrington, and Bulloch will recipro cate most heartily in the fight against the common enemy. . ■ - A Good Woman Passes Away. Wad Icy, Ga„ July 23.—Mrs. F. A. Polhill, who has been h long but pa tient sufferer from Paralysis, died Fri day morning at 8 o’clocit at her home near here, she died of dysentery. She leaves a large family and many dear friends won by her Christian life to mourn her death. She was 76 years old and had been for many years a faithful member of the Wadley Bap tist church. Dorsey Hid not montlon finding th<j sack and Its ghastly contents to thn white people living in the community, but thft negroes knew of It, and Mr. Perdue finally heard them discussing the revolting crime. The negro’s ignorance or criminal negligence has probably destroyed im portant evidence, that might have led to the discovery of the murderer. Nev ertheless. an investigation should lie made, and if possible, the guilty wretch who threw the murdered child into (he river apprehended and pun ished. * 1 Cattle Dyl ng- Greensboro, On., July 25.—A number of cows have died in Greene county recently and their death is attributed to various causes. Some have suc cumbed to flatulent colic, others have had fever, said lo be attributable to low vitality, produced by ticks, thpy literally sucking away the life-blood of the brutes. A few days ago Mr. John Youngblood lost a cow, she dying of an unrecognizable complaint. The ani mal would not cat. and rapidly became very emaciated. She drew breath very laboriously, the air maAing a sound as if forced through a bellows, and groaned frequently.
