Woman Craxcd by Religion Com mits a Double Crime. ChilUrothe. Mo., July 26.—Crazed by Christian science teachings. Mrs. Wil liam Jones, a young married woman living on a farm a few miles south of ChilUrothe. killed her 6-months-old 1 babe and cut her own throat Tuesday night. Mis. Jones was found wander ing around in the rainstorm with her babe In her arms. Friends took her to a place of shelter, and Wednesday a board of lunacy declared her insane, and ordered hor contlned at the poor house until she could be transferred to the state asylum. Her mania was that she and her babe could live without food. f-ast night, though closely watched, she procured a case knife, with which she cut and slashed her babe in a frightful manner. "A man Is a broker under this act,” it concludes,“who negotiates purchases or sales of stocks, bonds, notes, etc., in the course of business, and this ap plies to real estate agents. As soon as she has informed her peo ple of the result of her mission, she will publicly protest against the trans fer of the Islands, and will present her claim for the erown lands, confis cated by the republic, which consists of nearly 1,000,000 acres of land, which yield a yearly rental of over SIOO,OOO. It is said she will also present her claim for between $300,000 and $400,000 collected as rentals by the republic. Prominent American lawyers, it Is snid, have been engaged to handle the case against the United States gov ern ment. A disposition is everywhere manifest ed to make It hot for the scorcher. WIDOW OF GEN. HELM. The Sister-In-Law of Abe Lincoln on a Visit to Atlanta. Atlanta. Oa.. July 25.- Mrs. Ben Hardin Helm, accompanied by her daughter. Miss Helm, is visiting At lanta, as the guests of Dr. and Mrs. R. D. Spalding. Mrs. Helm is the widow of Gen Ben Hardin Helm, as gallant a Confederate soldier as went to the war. Mrs. Heim was a sister of Mrs. Abraham Lincoln. Mr. Lincoln ami Gen. Helm married sisters- the Misses Todd, of Kentucky. Gen. Helm was killed at the battle of Chiekamauga, and his remains were brought to Atlanta for interment, and not until a few days ago were they disinterred and returned to the family burying ground in Kentucky, wheire (hey now rest. Dr. Spalding was the surgeon ‘of Gen. Helm's regiment, having enlisted in the Confederate service in Kentucky and locating in Georgia shortly after the war. Mrs. Helm and Miss Helm came to will be with Dr. and Mrs. Spalding at their residence on Peachtree street un til Monday evening, when they will re turn to 'Kentucky. They have been the recipients of marked attention by t|je Confederate visitors to the city. Haralson County Officials. Buchanan, Ga., July 24.—The Demo cratic primary in Haralson today re sulted in the nomination of E. S. Grif fith for the legislature. G. W. Bullard, for sheriff. H. C. Head for clerk. E. C. Wilson for tax collector and H. D. Lasseter for tax receiver. The race was close for legislature between E. 9. Griffith, of Buchanan, and M. J.
