Col, Robert 1,. Berner the other dap. and his thoughts were only of t|he wur. He is very anx ious to get to the front with bU regi ment and hopes yet to ride down the streets of Havana with the victorious American legions. He tabooes all po litical palaver, and one cannot gather from his conversation that he had ever made a race for governor. Col. Berner, last December, was presiding over the state senate, with his ambition direct ed to higher political preferment. In the spring he was shaking the bushes of the state as n gubernatorial candi date. Today he has abandoned his law books and !b an officer of the army benl on confronting Blanco nt (he gates of Havana. This is a good deal cf experience for a man to have in tha course of eight months. Mr Charters, of Lumpkin county, re marked to me: “There Is a wrong im pression prevalent as to the personnel of the next geheral assembly. It is commonly believed that very few mem bers of the, last legislature will be on the roll of the nrw one. The truth Is that there will hardly he less than forty of Ihc old members In one branch or the other.” BUCKLEN’S ARNICA SALVE. The best Salve In tho world for Cuts.
