CUy court of Richmond county. ’ Cobb, J.—This being an action by a mother for the homicide of her son, and the declaration alleging that the deceased was an employe of the de fendant railroad company and was en gaged as a car sealer in tta yard, and that death was brought about by being crushed botwaen two cars where nn opening bad been left In the train of cars for the use of the employee In the yard, such opening being closed up by a sudden movement of the train with out notice to deceased; and tho evi dencel showing that the deceased was Injured while attempting to go through an opening which was not left for the use of the employes of the yard, and was only such an opening as was us ual and necessary from time to time In shifting cars in the yard, there waa no error in grunting a uon-auli. It was Shown In the Herld Office this Morning. There was shown In The Herald of fice today a curiosity In an egg. It was laid by a "dominecker" hen belonging to Mr. Tom Sharpton, 722 Marbury street. From the small egg there pro jects another egg that takes the shape of on arm, carrying the shape of the shoulder, elbow and wrist and partly tho fingers. It has attracted a great deni of at tention. DEATH OF MR. CARPENTER, A Bright Young Augustan Passes Away. After an illness of several weeks and much suffering. Mr. Jasso Carpenter passed quietly away at an early hour this morning at bis home, corner of Greene and Poplar street. Mr. Carpenter, previous to his Illness, held the position of shipping clerk of the Enterprise Manufacturing Com pany. He was a man of sterling qual ities and many friends. The funeral rours tomorrow afternoon at 4 o’clock from Asbury church. To the young widow the sympathy ot many friends Is extended 1n this her hour of sad bereavement. Hone to the War. Many of bis friends will be surprised to learn that Mr. Charlie Francis, who has been at Davenport S Phtnixy’s, has gone to the war. He left last night for Florida and is to join the Second Georgia reg'ment at. the front. Ur. Battey Out Again. Dr. W. W. Battey. whose injuries by accident have beenteld of in the pa lters. is out again today. The North Augusta Natatorium is still growing in popularity, and despite the fact that the clouds and threaten ing weather frightened away the crowd yesterday, many parties have been formed for a swim in the clear water this afternoon. The little fellow was watching a number of small pigs, when an old sow broke out of the pen and attacked the boy. biting him on the left leg. Ho was brought to Augusta today and is get ting along nicely. Meade Doing Nicely. Mr. Meade, the man who was shot by Rev. Lanier through error, he being mistaken for a burglar, and who is at the City Hospital for treatment, is do ing very nicely, today. His age will work against his very rapid recovery, but his condition is all that could be desired. Police Items. Private Jim May, Jr., of the 2nd Oa- Regiment, Taken Sick at Tampa. Mr. .Tim May. of this city, received a telegram last night from Tampa stat ing that his son, Mr. Jim May, jr., who lias been in cathp at that place, was quite ill with typhoid fever and won’ 1 lie sent home.
