On the occa sion of Augusta’s last exposition, a? a spec at treat, he brought into the cily all of his boys, secured passes for them io the exposition, and to the amaze ment of the police force turned th? 3d odd tv-ys loose In the exposition grounds, with Instructions to report back at half-past four, at the gate en trance. In spite of predictions that be would never see them again, every one of the boys reported promptly on time and ware driven hack to the Reforma tory, without the loss of a single one. On this occasion, despite the many temptations, not a boy In the institu tion failed to appreciate the liberty ex tended to him. Such a thing shows that the Re'ormatory 1* doing a great good 'n teaching respect for authority, yelf-rcllau c and a ready obedience, among a class of youthful criminals representing the toughest youngsters In the county, and who have been sent out to the institution for all sorts > f crimes, from stealing a billy goat to Incipient murder. Aside, though, from the school room and from the moral work that is done in the institution, the boys are given plenty of exercise. They are not ill* 1 lowed to spend their time in idleness; ! |,ut ore initialed into practical, high j grade scientific farming, with surpris | ing results.
