The deficit In the administration of the postoffice de partment is alleged by some to he due to the abuse of the second class mail matter, or rather the regulations gov erning second class mail mat ter. Others state that (lie present rates charged by the rail roads are too high. This question Is to he fully investiga ted. Maximum tcmpeiaturc -32. A CUTTING SCRAPE. George Maddlsott Hound Over to Superior Court. There was a cutting scrape In Klee's alley last Saturday night. Tom Jansen, colored, was the victim and George Maddison the cutter. The first was tak en to the Da mar hospital, and tho lat te ris tn Jail. The charge against Maddison ts as sault with Intent to kill, and he will be tried before Judge Callaway at the next term of the superior court. Jansen does not seem to have boon Injured very badly, as he was Bobu dis charged from the hospital. ROCKED A CAR. Henry Jerome, a Negro Boy, to Be Tried at City Court. Henry Jones, a negro boy. has been arrested by the police, on a charge brought by Inspector Glover, of the Au gusta Railway and Electric company. The charge was rocking a car on the Turpin Hill line. The gentlemen were: Hon. Geo. D. Tillman, of Clark's Dill, Z. P. Durham, of Columbia, and J. A. Floyd, of Camden. TAKEN TO HOSPITAL. Negro Boy Overcome By Heat at Noon Today. A young negro boy, whose name could not be learned, was taken sick on Campbell 6treet near tho postoffice »t about 1 o'clock today. The ambu lance was summoned and the boy taken to the Lamar hospital. He was over come by the heat, but attention nt the hospital scon brought him around. $300,000 FIRE. The Plant of the High Falls Company Destroyed. Potsdam, N. Y., Aug. 22.—Tho plant of the High Falls Sulphite, Pulp tend , Mining company, located at Pyrites, j has been destroyed by fire.
