The codifiers of the code —rather tha committee thereon—have' been pro gressing very well. Col. Carroll an nounced last night that he would be ready with his matter by Friday night, when (he committee could go on with Its work of revision. The committee having this work of revision In rharge waa appointed by Mayor Young two or three years ago ir. the junior year of their membership in round). The ordinances have now been all passed upon by the committee. When the work Is resumed Friday night it will be pushed with rapidity by the committee. Some New Laws. There are a number of new laws that have bean suggested to thp code com mittee by the codifiers and may be sug yesled in turn by the committee lo council. One of these consists of a change In Ihe oath which a person of fered as it voter in Ihe registration for city elections taxes. It I* understood that thi* ehange retains former feat ures of the oath, and carries the fur ther stipulation that an offering voter must affirm or swear that he paid all taxes dtte by him to the city. It la further understood that the code com mittee will offer this to council ns a law and that there wll tie no dissent from such offer. The Term of the Mayor. Here is also suggested a change in the term of the mayor—not In length of time of service, but as to the time of taking hold of the rcinß of govern ment. Tho change, it Is understood, opplies to eounellmen as well as to tho mayor. The election for mayor, as ct present arranged, occurs early In De cember. the mayor taking his seat the next day. It Is proposed to have (he election to occur as now, but to have the mayor qualify ton Jan. 1, giving him the Intervening month to acquaint himself with the new eounellmen and old eouneM. looking over the work of the heads of departments, etc. A Street Tax.
