THE STANDARD MILL SOLD
Valuable Property Transferred In
South Carolina.
Rock Hill, S. C., Aug. 24. —The Stan
'dnril Cotton mill was sold yesterday by
Julius H. Heyward, atandlng master of
the United States circuit court, the
! purchaser being Mr. C. W. Johnston,
1 uiauager aud treasurer of the High
, land Park Manufacturing company, of
| Charlotte, and it was announced at the
snio that Mr. Johnatone s bid was for
that company. There were other
! prominent mill men present, but the
only other bidder was Cnpt. W. L. Rad
| dcy. on his own account, who started
the bidding at the upset price, $.10,000,
and ran it up to $49,950. It was knock
ed down to Mr. Johnstona at $50,000.
i The mill was built and began opera
tions in 1888 and cost in the neighbor
hood of $150,000. It. is equipped with
480 Crompton looms and manufactures
jail kinds of colored goods. A few yearß
ago It was considered one of the best
I mills In this section, and as the ma
chinery, engine, boilers, etc., are in
'good condition, the strong company
by ivhich it is now owned will not be
long in putting it on its old time pay
iing basis.
! The sale embraces twenty-seven
, acres of land and all the tenement
; houses.
"(ho purchasers are practical mill
! men, th" president of the company be
j ing Mr. -V. E. Holt, of Lexington, N.
•C. They will commence operations as
; soon as the sale of the mill ia confirm
ed, which it is expected will not be
longer than thirty days, and it is iin
tlmated by gentlemen who may know
what they are talking about that the
policy of the company will be to erect
a spinning mill on the premises.
