SEVENTEEN
TONS or
ARGUMENT
The Herald ia Just In receipt of n
carload of paper—containing reven
teen lons of argument why Augusta la
the beat city in the south, why her
citiaen* are the most progressive,
and her merchante are the most proe
peous.
The Herald’* orders for carload lots
of paper have increased In number
rapidly during the past few months.
They ,'ire double in numbor now whal
they were a year ago and they are
still growing.
If you want your share In the seven
teen tons of argument that The Herald
has on hand for the nest thirty days,
you are entitled to it. The argument
is addresaed to the purrhasing and in
vesting public of Augusta, of Georgia
and South Carolina, and incidentally
to the entire United States. It it is
worth while for Tho Herald to double
Its orders Tor news. It Is worth while
for you to think of a suitable adver
tisement. which will make a compan
ion picture to the signs of good times
that are spreading all around us.
This is a great year for ox pan si on.

COLUMftIAI
BELL
RINGERS.
South Carolina’s capital, the fair city
of Columbia, enjoys an enviable repu
tation amo eg bar sister cities of the :
South.
But ahe has gone them all one better 1
In the civic enterprise of bell ringing j
that the city government maintains.
Charleston has her chimes, but the ;
city doesn’t pay for them. Columbua
diatances Charleston In civic enter
prise and activity and runs a regular
twenty-four hour schedule of town
clock chirnca.
The city of Columbia pays two men
S4O each a month or the sum of s9t>o a
year for the pleasure of hearing a town
clock struck with a hammer every
hour.
This Is one sphere of municipal ac
tivity that seems to have escaped the
attention of Augusta politician*. Au
gusta should have her bell-ringers.
I ts too much for the money not to
prove an attractive investment for oth
er Southern cities.
It has been positively and definitely
established that Roosevelt said damn
on the field of bcttle. Will he be
court mart ialed or Guggenheimered?
Real Trouble.
What to do with the Philippines isji’t
bothering the President half so much
as the question of "what to do with
Plngree" is bothering the corporations
of Michigan.
He’ll Know More Next Time.
Admiral Oervera having taken n post
graduate course at Annapolis he will
know much more about naval warfare
than ho did before going there.—Salt
Lake Herald.
Why He Failed.
His failure to get the St. James am
bassadorship ought to convince White
law Reid that it doesn't pay to move
away from Ohio. —Chicago News.
