Frcstad states that there were barometric indications before the storm struck the vessel nod be was not therefore prepared to meet tt, but it was necessary to heave the vessel to to avoid serious consequences. Sept. 16.—At noon todsy the beard of health officially an nounced that one new case of yellow j fever had appeared in Jackson. The patient, J. H. Menley, was a train dis patcher. He was taken sick Wednes day with what appeared to be an or dinary chill. The patienl was isolated in the Morrison Grocery building, four ht iidred yards south cf where the cate first appeared. All necessary precau tions wre taken. The town Is quiet. Few people are leaving. Storm at Montauk. Montauk Point, L. 1., Sept. 16. —A se vere rain storm set In here last night and continued this morning. The camp authorities were warned of Its approach and were prepared. Every tent had been strengthened and the storm did 11 * damage. There were six hundred men la the geueral hospi tal today. On account of the storm 00 sick were transferred to the city. “United Ireland” Suspenis. Dublin, Sept. 16.—“ United Ireland,” which was established by the late Charles Stewart Parnell, in 1881. as the organ of the Land League, has ceased publication. The cloud of mystery surrounding the find ing of the dismembered body of a young woman in Yellow Mill Pond on Monday soems to only deepen each succeeding day r/ith tbe remarkable number of "positive" identifications. The roan who yesterday called at the morgue and identified the head as that of Marlon Grace Perkins, of Mid dle boro. Mass., seemed very positive, but later on another man who said she was from New York was equally positive in asserting she was Mbs Louisa King, who disappeared after entering the bathing pavilion, West Brighton, lasi Sunday. Miles Much Improved. Washington. Sept. 16. General Miles is much improved, having no fe ver today. Nine of the Crew of she "Alice .lordan” Drowned. Boston, Mae#.. Sept. 16.—The steam ship Gloucester of the Merchants and Miners Transportation company, which arrived here this forenooon from Balti more, reports that at 1:30 o’clock this morning collided with the Gloucester schooner, Alice Jordan, off Martha's Vineyard.- Seven of the crew were paved and brought here on the Glou cester. The flag pole at l,ake View has hern treated to a coast of white pain and looks not unlike Cleopatra’s needle as it rears its gleaming point heaven wi rd. The painting of the pole was no easy Job, as it stands ninety feet high. The top was reached by the use 4 of lineman's spurs and the pa'.nter had to hold himself in position and paint at the same timp. Shot at Griffin. Griffin, Ga.. Sept. 16.—Private Idnn, of Co. M, Third Georgia, was shot ia the head last, night while playing cards. He will recover. The doctors extracted the bullet this morning. His home is in Wisconsin. Death of Mrs. David B. Redd. Mrs. 1). K. Redd, wife of Policeman Redd, died at 11:30 this morning after a lingering illness of consumption.
