Recently one of our handsome sol dier boys, by the aid of political Influ ence, was assured of his discharge sev eral days ahead of his regiment, ow ing to the fact that he was a party to a marriage contract. When our young rhevnller prevented himself before As sistant Secretary of War General Cor bin he was asked by that official If the story was genuine. The young son of Mars with blushes acknowledged the corn anrl gave the young lady's name and address. General Corbin turned to his typewriter and told him to write a letter, to the young lady, congratulat ing her on the happy event. The young soldier hastened away to receive the greetings of his prospective bride, ar riving ahead of the letter from the war department and telling he was borne on a short furlough, which sad ly grieved her, as she had been looking fcr’ the discharge of her handsome lover from further military duty. But his presene? for awhile caused her to forget "the dread alarums of war” in basking in love's young dream.
