ADVERTISING THAT VAT*. Advertising Is a business. It is money spent from which returns are expected in quicker sales and larger sales. Unless your advertising does this. It Is money wasted. Unless your advertisement In The Herald does this. The Herald doesn’t want your business. We've got no claim to it and we don't believe in taking money under false pretenses. Place your advertising as you do any other line of business, on strictly business principles. Take a little pains and care with It and it will prove a prof itable Investment. It will give every clerk in your store more to do. It will move your goods. Hut the man who scatters his advertising around on pleas of personal friendship and char ity lines—well he Isn't working it from a business standpoint and is not giv ing advertising tbe show it de serves. But It Is Too Personal. Baltimore Sun. Dr. Swallow Is running his campaign for governor on one plunk: Thou shall not steal. That ought to be a very good slogan In Pennsylvania poli tics. Hardly Worthy of Hie Steal. Chicago Titnee-Herald. Don Curios Is evidently waiting to see how much change Uncle Stun gives back, to Spain before making u grab for It. Advice For Teddy. N. Y. Herald. Somehow or other, I have always had the Idea that Richard Harding Davis was a snob, a thoroughly super cl 11 tous, conceited and generally dls agreeable young man. It seems, though, that I'm wrong, for In talking with one of the Second C.eorgia boys vesterday. he told me of meeting one of (he Rough Riders In Atlanta, who swore by Pavis. "I never encountered a better cam paigner,” said the aforesaid Rough Rider. "He put up with soldiers' fare without a murmur; he was always gcod-natured and obliging, and on the day of the big fight he worked with the Red Cross rorps right under the heaviest kind of lire. It Is true, ho brought down a good many little lux uries. but I happen to know that he pavt away everything (o wounded sol diers.
