Hla father anpiared nnd said that his son hod bt<n drunk yesterday and that he had deemed It best that the police take charge of him. He said a certain party had taken the young man off yesterday ami kept him from homo all day. When hi* eon returned at nightfall, he was tn a very Intoxicated conrlltlon. Judge Baxter decided that the young fellow should be dismissed. CAUGHT AT LAST. Robert Hawkins Ha* Been Wanted For Home Time. Since 11 o’clock, on the morning of August 1, Robert Hawkins, a colored lwy of about U years of age, has Ireen wanted by the nolire. They have him. He has been want oil for being quite disorderly, and also for Jumping on and off cars. On August Ist, he jumped on a train and when a rralnhand attempted to j put him off he grabbed hold of the trainman and pulled the latter from the moving train, causing the railroad man to fall heavily on the ground and narrowly escape Injury. Robert made himself scarce since yesterday, and It was not until yester day that Policeman Cobb took Robert tn tow. At court thlß morning, the judge lev ied a fine of t'.'.O on the aforesaid Rob ert. I sup pose?” asked Attorney Fogarty. ‘••Guess so," replied the witness A Devil of a Fix. Tom Hight, the well known colored politician, was put on the stand He said he had been told by Hunnicutt that he (Hnnnlcittt) had registered twice ami he (Hight) had told him that he waa "in a devil of a fix.” Mr. Fogarty asked Tom what aide of the fence he was on and Tom said: "The same side." Hammond’s statement tvas to the ef fect that he had not kuown that Hun nicutt hnd registered before or he would have told him not to register agtiiti. He dented in toto that he had told Hunnicutt to give the name of Bob Evans. Attorney Fogarty made a long and forcible speech for his client. He Aid great stress on the fact that the judge should not believe the evidence of Hight and Williams. He said: ■‘Of course nil the witnesses are hon orable men. Of course, all they did towards giving evidence against Ham mond was from patriotic motives on ly. ‘They represent moral politics,” said Mr. Fogarty, looking at the judge with a alight emi e rippling over his coun tenance. He went on to state that Hammond, even If he hnd desired to register Hun nicutt as Jones, would not have told Hunnicutt to give the wrong name In the presence of Registrar Meßeth. He stated that Hunnicutt might have Stated anythtng under the Influence of Hight and Williams. “Tom flight's the 'fixer.'” sail Mr. Fogarty, “and Charles Williams' evi dence Is undoubtedly false." The next chaige was that of jump ing on nnd off a moving train. That oc curred during last August. Policeman Chambers reported the case. The de fendant was fined J 7.50. Officer Watson brought the next charge. It was that of shooting a slingshot in the cltys The tine in this case was $5. n The next charge was that of shoot ing at another last night. Policeman Reynolds brought that charge. The de fendant plead guilty, but, after a bit, said to the judge: “Judge, you might as well fine me and that other boy, 'case we is both not gwlne to tat! the truth.” The other boy, a witness, denied the charge. There was nothing done about the charge, as it could not be proven. We urge earnestly, that these grave evils may be guarded against. CAR THIEF CAUGHT. Will Logan Was Arrested Last Afternoon. Will Logan, a negro boy, was arrest ed yesterday afternoon for breaking Into a freight car on the Georgia road last Thursday night. A sack of flour was taken. Sergeants Norris and Officer Reynolds took Logan in tow last night. He will be tried at city court.
