marl et quiet hut displaying a firm un
dertone. Many trader* In the pit had
received limited buying orders from

early in the *e*sion contributed to the
stability of the market. English ca
ble* were aleiut as expected. The wea
ther reports were conflicting Later In
the morning the market was irregular
wth prices lending downward under lo
cal selling. Trade was very slow, how
ever. with the neat eat r-osltlons ab
sorbing the bulk of attention. The close
was steady at a net loss of one to three
points.
Estimated receipts at the port# to
day were *2.000 bales against 60,200 ac
tual last week and 60,215 actual last
year. The receipts this week c ere 4UO -
OOt la gainst 417.434 actual last week and
336.422 actual last year .Today at Mem-
I his 6.230 against 50.1*15 last year, and
today's receipts at H'-uston were 20,404
against 13,149 last year.
DAT GOODS.
New York. Nov. 19.—The week has
been remarkable in the print cloth
market, as there has been larger sales
of regular cloths and other grades now
described a-< “committee goods” than
any week for several months. The ad
visory committee of manufacturers
gave out no figures, but It Is probable
that sales have amounted to about
400.000 piecesa, perhaps more. It Is
said that regulars have sold at 2 1-16
cents on November-Decemlter delivery
and that goods are easily obtainable at
this price. In staple cottons, locally,
there have been continued large sales
of export goods to brown eottona. The
demand shows n.o sign of aba lenient.
In bleached cottons the market is more
active since the recent reduction.',

CHICAGO MARKET.
Chicago, Nov. 19.—There was pro
nounced strength in corn today, ond
heavy export business at the seaboard
rescued a dropping wheat market. De
cember wheat closed 14»% higher, and
May advanced 14. Corn rose 14 cent.
Oats left off % cent up. Pork ur.d ribs
advanced 714 cents each and lard 214.

Only One Case Reported By Police
Last Night.
Last night was one of the quietest
nights w ith the police that the officers
have experienced in a good while.
There was only one case reported, and
that was that of Jim Harris, colored,
Charg d with cutting Ed Metz, colored.
In the arm. The two had a difficulty in
a store on Hale street at about 10
o'clock last night, and Ed was so un
fortunate ns to get cut by Jtin. The
cut. however, is not a deep one, and all
parties will be able to face the recor
der on Monday morning.
