IMPROVEMENTS ON ISLAND.
Charleston Consolidated Will Give
More Rapid Transit.
CHARLESTON. Jan. 3. —i'lans have
been perfected lay the Consolidated J
company for an improvement of the
service between Charleston and the
Isle of Palms which will land passen
gers between the terminals in four
teen minutes or leas, adding to the
popularity of Ihe resort. A new steel
hull steamer is to take the place of
the old Commodore Perry, new three
track terminals are to he built at the
Isle of Palms and new engines are to
be installed at ihe power station on
Sullivan's Island. The three track
service will be for the purpose of pro
viding a separate run for the passen
ger cars along Sullivan's Island and
Mount Pleasant, allowing the other
tracks to be used exclusively for the
express service between Charleston
and the Isle of Palms. The station
will he a fine one at the resort, pro
viding protection for the public In had
weather.

thinks the skeleton of a child found
on the farm of Mr. John T. Fletcher's
place Sunday afternoon is that of heT
12year-old boy. who disappeared from
home about two months ago and "was
never seen or heard of since.
Mrs. Green left this morning for
the Fletcher farm, in cotnpanv with
a physician, who will attempt to tell
something definite about the skeleton
of the child. No doctor was present
at the coroner's inquest, when a ver
dict of murder was returned.

City council last night adopted a reso
lution nut homing the mayor to invite
the rivers and harbor* committee of
congress. In the name of the munici
pality, to pay a visit to the city. The
trade Itodles are to be asked to also
adopt resolutions Issuing an Invita
tion.
The resolution adopted by council
was as follows:
"Whereas. The rivers and harbors
committee of congress expects to visit
Georgia In March to Inspect the Chat
tahoochee river; anil.
"Whereas. I'nder the approval of
this committee, large sums have been
expended In the past In the Improve
ment of the river and harbor of Sa
vannah. Ga.. the most Important port
between Baltimore and New Orleans,
and It Is befitting that the members
of the committee should have sn op
portunity to visit this city and In
spect the results achieved by the work
done by the national governtrfhnt in
the past; therefore, be It
"Resolved, That the mayor and al
dermen of Ihe city of SnvHnnh. in
council assembled. In behalf of ihe
people of Savannah, do hereby extend
a cordial invitation to the rivers and
harbors committee of congress to visit
Savannah during Its coming visit to
this section as the guests of the city;
and, be it further
"Resolved, That the mayor be au

The chief matter of importance
scheduled to ronie up at this meeting

unable to attend the State Normal
school. The legislature at it* last
session made no provision for the
summer school this year, and this is
thought to have been an oversight
when the general appropriations bill
was under consideration. It is ex
pected the trustees will make some
arrangement by which the summer
school will be held this year is us*
a!, depending upon the legislature to
n ake ihe necessary appropriation at
Its coining summer session.
The trustees will not take any
steps looking toward the selection of
a new chancellor at this time. They
will, however, arrange for a suitable
memorial to the late chancellor, and
designate some one to sign the di
plomas of graudatlng students in his
stead. Professor David C. Barrow,
of the chair of mathematics, and dean
of the faculty, will exercise the func
tions of chancellor pending the selec
tion of a successor to Chancellor Hill.
