ald on Thursday last, Mr. A. P. H.
Mullarky has very generously donated
$5 as a prize for the boy or girl in
Richmond county who writes the best
essay on "The Main Events of 1861;
Their Importance and Influence.” Any
scholar under eighteen years, in any
of the white schools of Richmond
county, is qualified to enter the compe
tition for this prize; in addition the
scholar who receives this $5 will also
qualify his or her essay for the gold
hiedal offered by the state and the
additional $lO offered by Miss Millie
Rutherford.

It is reported that J. Miller Robert
son, special agent for the Phoenix-of
Hartford in Mississippi and LoulsuHm,
is to be transferred to the southeastern
field, taking charge of the two Caro
linas and eastern Georgia, with head
quarters at Augusta. Major Ralne is
to continue in charge of western Geor
