The western operatic company tri
uutph, "The Tenderfoot," will be seen
as the Grand next Thursday. There
Is probably no opera that has been
produced In this country In years that.j
has so much that is characteristically j
American as "The Tenderfoot.” Its
story tells of life on the southwestern j
frontier, and this local gives oppor-j
tiinlty for the introduction of such i
picturesque characters as Texas 1
rangers, cowboys and cowgirls. Mex
icans. soldiers, seminary girls, and all
the people that might be met In a
community on. the plains. The cos

count of the musical demands of the
piece, the company is an extremely i

The recorder's court was quiet
again this morning, there being only
four cases on the docket. These were
all minor rases and with the excep
tion of a negro that was bound over
for assault and battery there was prac
tieally nothing doing.
Sarah McNair was up for cussing
out a negro woman and was charged
with running a regular drunk parlor.
She was dosed by Recorder Plcquet
to sls or 30.
Joe Carter pulled his knife on a
Mr. Walton, a white man of this city,
and then proceeded to cuss out an
other white man by the name of Gol
den. The cussing was done In the
presence of Mrs. Golden Joe whs let
down light b> the recorder with a
sentence of $5 or 10 days, but he
was bound over to the city court
under r charge of assault and hat
tery with the bond fixed at sluo.
Chaa. Crawford whs drunk and was
giving a tine exhibition of the naughty
words on the street. He was present
ed with $5 or 10.
Dick Owens was staggering upon
the highways of the city very much
under the Influence of booze. Dick
got the heavy dose, for he received 30
or fiO.

The many Augusta friends of the
late Mrs. K. H. Von der Leith, whose
death was told of yesterday, will he
Interested In the following that comes
from Athens, where Mrs. Von der
Leith died:
Mrs Von der Leith was in her
eighty-fourth year at the time of her
death, and had for several months
been rapidly declining lit health, al
though It was only last Friday that
her illness took a serious turn.
The venerable woman was one of
the oldest citizens of Athens, having
resided here for more than fifty-four
years. She was born In Germany,
May 22. 1822, and came to America in
1844, landing in Charleston, S. C.
On November 1, 1846, she was mar
ried to Mr. K. H. Von der Leith, and

In 1851 the brick building on College
avenue was erected and there she has j
lived for the pas* fifty-two years.
In 1851 Mrs. Von der Leith went
Into business at the place where she
lived on College avenue, and In that
place the business Is still going on, It
being the oldest business In the city
of Athens.
Mrs. Von der Leith was a devout
member of the Kplseopal church and
until old ago came upon her wan a
conatant attendant upon the services
of the ehurch. Hhe was a woman of
the kindest heart and all tier friends
were deeply attached lo her.
Mrs. Von der Leith leaves seven
children to mourn li*t death. Mrs. H.

To the sorrowing relatives the sympa
