ARGO ft JESTERS GOSSIP.
J. 8. Ruche ft Co.: We consider
under present conditions there Is very
lltllc likelihood of exports coming to
New York for delivery on contract
unless futlres reach a much higher
figure than current prices which con
vinces us thnt. with or without man
ipulation the market is healthy and
the purchases on reactions should give
good results.
Marshall Spader ft Co.: The recent
advance In the option list has been
well supported up to this time by an
Increased demand for spot cotton and
at advancing prices. Meantime re
ceipts have fallen off to an extent
nearly Justifying conservative crop es
timates and as pointed out in these
advices the net movement between
now and September will not bo largely
In excess of fifty per cent of last
year.
NEW YORK, March 27.—Some long
j cotton was thrown over and a slight
decline took place yesterday. It was
only slight, for bulls were there to
give the market support and the bears
have been so roughly handled in the
!last few weeks that they think twice
before soiling short aggressively. Yet
there was no nibbing out the fact that
Liverpool market wabbled In a way
that disconcerted some of the friends
of cotton on this aide of the water,
that New Orleans was decidedly luke
warm to all appearances toward an
advance, that the Houston estimate
was large enough to make It plain that
Texas Is disposed to accept present
prices or that weather especially bad
lln southweat. It is true that there
was an advance early In the day on
some support apparently emanating
from Price Interests, that the spot
business In Liverpool was large and
that, certain Wall street houses and
others were disposed to bny, not to
mention some scattered short* who
were disinclined to make the risk of
remaining uncovered any longer.
NKW YORK, March 27.— Smelting
Is destined for higher prices, but may

ing to our Information. We would buy \
Heading on any fair recession, bellev- [
ing it will go higher, very little oppo j
sltlon being reported this side of 140.
Inside buying of both Southern Pacific

day. There Is but little doubt that
Load will sympathize with Smelter*.

So far as has been learned, the
mission of Prince Tsai Tse Is much
th« same as that of Prince Henry and
Prince l/ouls—that Is to say, "to look
us over,” and accept whatever sug
gestions may be worth while in the
way of social and Industrial condi
tions. There Is no set program and
no particular Instructions, the prime
purpose of the visit, perhaps, being
of a diplomatic nature.
Stella: "How'old is she?”
