MARKET CHAT.
By Argo ft Jester.
A. O. Brown A Co: Although some
what easy at one time, the msrkel |
showed recuperative power, partly ow- j
Ing to considerable buying of May!
cotton, which put that month lo a
premium over July, and the impres
slon Is that a further short interest 1
in that month remains to bo covered
Meantime the estimated receipts si
Houston and New Orleans show a
falling off and the semi-weekly ship
ments from the interor towns art'j
some 12,000 bales larger than the re j
ceipts. Important factors are among
the buyers here, and some of the 1
prominent operators arc understood'
to be still committed to the bull side,
taking the ground that, he basis of I
facts of tile sltustlon are distinctly j
bullish front the viewpoint of both j
supply snd demand, in the absenoe >t
the outside public, however. It. is still
largely a professional, speculative
situation and we would act according j
ly. buying on declines, but taking ad
vantage of upturns to sell.
Miss Remington will be at. the Horse
Show.
NEW YORK. March 28.—The tin
dertono of the local cotton market at (
the opening yesterday was easier, duo j
to a decline In the market at Liver
pool and first prices were 2 to 5 points |
lower. The set-back in the nglish j
market was said to be due to Yeallz- j
ing and selling by interests at New
j Orleans.
! The leading bulls made little effort 1
to check the decline, presumably act
ing on the idea that a good reaction
was healthy. The new crop months
were sold freely on the favorable
weather map. The bulls gave more
active support to the market In mid
afternoon, finding the room short, and
prices advanced a point or two over
last night’s close. Wire houses
bought May and July on the rally,
and general business showed an Im
provement.
Stenographers Headquarters—L. J.

Bartlett. Frazier ft Carrington Ray:
There was fairly free selling yester
day morning, supposed to tie liquida
tion of longs who have been trailing
the bull crowd. The clique have tue
! market well in hand, but It looks as
[though they are taking on a big load
i with no certainly of getting the public
:in to help them out. We advise cau
tion in following the advance to ex
tremes.
The Horse Show Association uses a

Financial Bureau:—Brooklyn Rapid
Transit, is in position to be advanced
sharply any time. Reading and Smelt
er should be bought on all these reces
sions. We are informed by special
ista that if Union Pacific and Copper
pools lake the moderate amount 01
stock offering a little above the clos
ing pricea of yesterday, important ad
vances will take plare on both lasuos,
on which we are bullish. New York
Central Is in position to go higher.
We think Southern Pacific In position
to do better. The same may be said
ol Sugar. Atchison should be bougne
on the big wheat crop and reports,
very persistent, of a higher dividend,
information on St Paul is very bull
ish. also Southern Railway. Erie and

would buy the United States prefer
