Thus far, however, there Is no
storming of Denver’s gates, owing to

noticeable absence of national lead
ers and the conspicuous figures of
former conventions—Tillman, Bailey,
Culberson, Champ Clark, John Sharp
Williams—and most of the men of
action in this gathering are from the
ranks of local leaders. One of the
arrivals today was Chas. W. Bryan,
brother of the candidate, who came
from Lincoln with a number of the
Nebraska leaders to dispense hospi
tality from the Nebraska and Bryan
headquarters.
Naturally the democratic standard
hearer of 1904, Judge Alton B. Par
ker of New York, Is a center of at
tention and interest. He is compara
tively a new figure in conventions.
JUDGE PARKER
REGARDS MR. BRYAN
AS THE LEADER.
"Do vou eoasider the presidential
nomination still an open question, or
Is Mr. Bryan’s nomination reasonably
assured?” Judge Parker was asked
today.
"Of course, I have no more exact
information than you have on that,
subject, he replied, “but the reports
gathered by the press and by those
who are keeping pretty close track
of the standing of delegations appear
to Indleate that Mr. Bryan has a very
strong lead and one which may bo
sufficient to give him the nomls.i
tion. At the same time we are here
In friendly rivalry, both as to men
and measures. It may be that some
of us would have preferred another
candidate, but we ane here for an

ATLANTA, Ga When the Dixie
Flyer pulled out of Atlanta over tlie
Western and Atlantic railroad this
morning at C'f.r, It carried threu, Bull
mans and a dining car occupied by
the delegates from Georgia to the
democratic convention at Denver and
a large number of heir friends. They
will go via Evansville. The party
will arrive In Denver Monday merit
ing.

DENVER, Colo "I'rimifrald it's no
tiHe,” said n Johnson advocate today,
“we have brought the democratic
party to Denver too inie. The Ra

"It’s a cinch that If Bryan Is nom
inated," responded a Gray man, “the
next convention of the party might as
well be called to meet at Billy Mul
doon’s Sanitarium.”
But, of course, these men urn prej

Here Is James Dahlman, the Cecil

istration, taking an entirely opposite
View,
“Right hero,” sald the reformer
cowboy, "the democratic party be
gins to live again. This year we

a majority like Teddy got four years
ago.”

DHhlman, who Is the homespun mayor

James Dahlman, who forced his way
Into the presence last night and In
formed Murphy that It did not matter
whether any favored Bryan or not,
since be could not only bo nominated
but elected without tho support of
the same.

ARE KNOWN AS

/ Grady went about town yesterday
correcting some false Impression*
about Tammany and curbing the
spirit of some wild western tavern
keepers who had taken liberties with
the sacred tiger. Out here the Tam
many delegates are hopefully referred
to as "The Spenders.” Accordingly
there Is groat, competition among ihe
dispensers of good cheer for the
trade of the New Yorkers. The com
petition led about a score or more
of less low resorts to display slgni
announcing that within could be the
real headquarters In the town of the
Tammany delegation.
Grady became confn«ed as he met
up with these signs all about the
town and secured a list of the places
where Tammany will be quartered
he hired an automobile and made a
clean up, forcing every Inn keeper
who could not show a contract with
the tiger, to take In his sign and
