PAINTING OF CHRIST
TO BIND TWO NATIONS
PARIS—Sir John Tollemache Sin
clair haa offered the French nation
through M. Yves Guyot, as a testi
mony of his attachment to the en
tente cordiale, a superb work of art
consisting of a painting of Christ with
the crown of thorns, by Murillo.
In a letter to M. Guyot Sir John
states that the picture, which is in
an excellent state of preservation, for
merly belonged to the celebrated
Beresford Hope collection from which
it was acqnired at a cost of between
three and four thousand pounds. Sir
John adds that he hopes it will be
hung in the Louvre.
M. Guyot has reported the offer to
M. Dujardth BPaumetz, minister of
Fine Arts.
