THE AUGUSTA HERALD.
JEROME IS STILL
iUHG TUI
Objects to Prisoner Leav
ing; New York for Pitts
burg Bankruptcy
Proceedings.
NEW YORK.— District Attorney Je
rome, It Is understood 'oday, will
make a strong protest against Harry
h Thaw being taken to Pittsburg on
August 21, when his bankruptcy pro
ceedings come before the United
States court.
The basis for Jerome's opposition
Is the fear that If Thaw once gets
out of the state he may find a way
to defy the New York authorities to
get mm pack If he should be taken
out In this Instance, however, it would
be on an order of the United States
court, and the loophole that served
in the Chanler case would not exist,.
In tha> case Chanler was legally in
sane nere, but sane In Virginia.
The other children of Wm. Thaw,
It Is said, do not approve of the
bankruptcy movement which Mrs.
Thaw jg said to have decided upon
In Harry's uehalf after consulting
only her daughters. Alice and Mar
garet and the lawyers.
One, of the Thaw stepchildren is
said to have gone almost into hys
terics when told that a detective hryl
been made receiver for Harry, and
iwo saloon keepers had gone on the
detective’s bond. This member want
ed to know- whilhei* the Thaw name '•
was drifting, anyway.
D T. Watson, of Alaskan bound
ary fame. Is said to have planned
the move, the Impo-t of which the
public does not yet fully ‘understand,
but the real object of which Is said
to have the federal court pass on
Thaw's sanity. Frank Sample, the
tgaw's business manager, says a
more experienced business man than
Roger O'Mara should have been
named as trustee.
"t don't know 'whether this move
of Harry's will be a good thing or
not. he added. "I don't know how
much it will protect his property."
