Miss Denning is the second daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Denning and is
a young woman of beauty, accom
plishments and very delightful per
sonality; gentle and winning in her
nature, and fascinating and charming ,
in her manner.

CELEBRATES HER BIRTHDAY.
Mfss Annie McDonald was hostess
of a delightful birthday party given
Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs.
J. Key Morris on Monte Sano, in cele
bration of her seventeenth birthday.
All sorts of amusing games were
indulged In and delightful music en
joyed. At a late hour the guests
were ushered into the supper room,
which was beautifully decorated in
crimson and white, in honor of the
auspicious occasion. Crimson and
white streamers were festooned from
the chandeliers to the four corners
of the room, while others entwined
with tinsel fell from the chandelier
to the corners of the table. The ta
bid? was very lovely with cut flowers
and golden-rod, the center-piece be
ing the large birthday cake with its
seventeen gleaming candles. Delic
itus ices and confections were serv
ed, and after the candles had burn
ed out, the birthday cake, which con
ta.ned a ring and a thimble, was cut.
Mr. L. J. Evans was the lucky win
ner of the ring, signifying that he
would be the first of the party to
marry, and Miss Clara Doering drew
the thimble, which foretold for her
single blessedness. Many lovely pres
ents were received by the young
hostess and all departed, wishing her
many happy returns.

Waldorf Astor, who was, before her

just returned from a beautiful motor
trip through England and Scotland
and will spend the fail in Lonuon,

there will be a delightful entertain
ment at Hkyvale for tho benefit of
the Sunday school, the library, etc.
Mr, B. R. Mitchell will entertain
both children and “grown-ups” with
moving pictures, illustrated songs and
talking wooden head dolls. The en
tertainment will begin as eight o’clock
and the admission will be ten cents.
Ice cream and cake will be sold in

A Dance at Hampton
HAMPTON, S. C - -One of the most
joyous events of Ihe season was a
hall given by the young men of the
prosperous little town of Crocketvillc
last Thursday evening.
The occasion being the annual pic
nic al this place and the senatorial
campaign meeting.
The grounds were beautifully ar
ranged for Ibis occasion; a stand be
ing built for the speakers In the
beautiful grove of trees and seats pro
tided for the crowd.
About three thousand people as
sembled from the nolghborhorlng
counties to listen to ihe candidates
speak and when night fall came on
all had practically dispensed save
tile dancing crowd.
The evening was cool and the pa
vilion filled with young people among
