rIE AUGUSTA HERALD
MR. BERNSTEIN
AI GRAND AGAIN
Mr. Jake Wella Says There
Will be no Changes at
Theatre for the Present-
Opens Early in Septem
ber.
Manager Bernstein will return to
the Grand this season, and the as
sisting force will be practically un
changed. This announcement sets at
rest definitely various rumors that
have been afloat for some days about
the resident manager of the theater,
and Is made upon authority of Mr.
Jake Wells, who arrived In* Augusta
this morning and after a conference
between himself and Mr. Schweigert,
representing the local stockholders.
'the reports around town, about
which nothing definite could be gath
ered were to the effect that Mr. Wells
would send Mr. Bernstein to one of
his theaters In another town anil that
Mr. Richard Tant, an assistant last
season to Mr. Bernstein, and possi
bly Stage Manager James Tant, would
also be changed. Mr. Wells’ flat
statement sets at rest all doubt. Ac
cording to him, Mr. Bernstein might
be removed later-in the year, but for
the present he could be found at the
Grand, as before.
Mr. Wells said this morning that
the same scrupulous attention to de
tail that characterized the manage
ment last year would be observed this
season, and everything would be done
to make the place • attractive and
pleHHant. While the list of bookings
is not yet complete enough Is known
to make It certain that the list In
cludes some of the biggest of the re
cent successes, as well as the favor
ites of the past few years.
Senor Andonegul will have charge
of the orchestra. The opening date
will be early In September. "Under
Southern Skies," which was to have
been the opener on August 24th, has
been cancelled, Mr. Wells not caring
to open the theater in such a warm
month.
