The rapid Increase In the fruit In

It is now found in nearly every sec- 1

elsiv The yellows and peach leaf;

be fought.
However, the work of the depart
ment Is now broadening out and !
much iime now has to b't devoted to j

has damaged cotton materially In |
many Instances, notably In Jefferson )

Improved seed Is the only method
of fighting this disease and during
the next season the state department,
of agriculture, through the entomolo

Goods Levied on.
In the sull of Dr. E. P. Culver and
Dr. J. B, Littleton vs. Luther Kirby,
tried Katurday morning before Mag
istrate Bennett, a verdict was ren
dered for the defendants.
It seems that Mr. Kirby moved to
Smith Carolina and while his house
hold goods were at the depot they
were levied on by Judge Bennett for
Dr. K. - P. Culver. The amount was
IL!.9r>, due on some groceries. Dur
ing Ihe same week Dr. Littleton en
tered a levy on them for sl4. due for
medical service* rendered. Mr. Kir
by took out a homestead before Msg
istrate Nurnberger. The case was
tric'd and Mr. Bennett overruled tho
homestead proceedings.
Mrs. Kirby, through her attorneys.
Pierce Brothers, entered a claim for
the stuff, stating that It was hers.
Mr. Bennett overrulod her claim on
the grounds that she was present
when her husband took out the home

object, therefore. It the goods were
Mr Kirby's property ihen, they uro
