Mr. Madebach has only made Au

being a native of Germany, but dur

FORESTERS
Thirty-nine young graduates of
nine American Forest Schools have
lately received appointments as forest
assistants In tbe Forest Service and
have been assigned to positions for
the present Held season. The new
appointees are drawn from the va
rious forest schools as follows: Yale,
18; Rlltmorc, 5; University of Minne
sota. I; University of Michigan, 4;
Michigan Agricultural College, 3;
Harvard, 2; Cornell, 1; University of
lowa l. and University of Nchraskn, 1.
They have secured their appoint
ments as a result of passing the regu
lar civil service examination, which
is the only avenue to employment ns
n forester under the government. In
addition to these graduates of forest
schools, fifteen other candidates pass
ed thp examination.
Twenty two of the new appointees

administration, and seventeen have
i been assigned to different projects
