VIOLATION CASE mmmmm Method of Competition Between The Standard Oil Co. And Hisgen Bros. Discussed. NEW YORK The method of com petition between the Standard Oil company and the Hisgen Brothers, the Independent concern at Albany, was the chief subject of discussion and testimony at the hearing at the cus tom house yesterday before Hpecial Examiner Ferris in the case of the government against the Standard Oil company for violation of the anti trusi laws. Several grocers from upstate were examined by Attorneys Frank B. ,Kel. logs, for the government, and Moritz Rosenthal, for the Standard Oil. Mr. j Rosenthal tried to show that the | Standard did not cut prices to win customers from the Hisgens, and Mr. : Kellogg sought to prove otherwise. E .1 Wagner, of Albany. N. Y„ 1 testified that cutg in price of oil had j been started by the Hisgens. He had been employed by the Standard Oil company. Albert 1.,. Three houses were completely wrecked, many others damaged, and two persons in jured. when 800 quarts of nltro glycerine exploded, in a skiff, near Belleville, on the Ohio river, below this city. Waves of a passing boat upset the red signal lantern which Ignited the sawdust around the cans of glycerin. The houses of Shuiriaky, Reed Ran dolph and Phil Wells were almost com pletely destroyed. Mrs. Shumaky amu her daughter were blown out of their house, and seriously injured. INJUNCTION AGAINST RAILWAY COMMISSION ST. PAUL.—Judge Vandeventir, in United States circuit court cran ed injunction requested by St. Louis, Iren Mountain and Southern, auii three other railroads op abating in Arkansas, against Arkansas state rail way commission. Injunction restrains commission from enfotcing new iwo cent fare law, and from interfering with railroads in raising their freight rates on intra-otate traffic. ANDREW CARNEGIE TO EKE SCHOOL Will Make His Technical School The Largest in the World. PITTSBURG. Pa.—At a recent con fcrcncc. held at Skibo Castle, Andrew Carnegie made arrangements for the completion of the Carnegie Technical School at Pittsburg on a colossal scale He plans to make it the greatest school in the world and his greatest monument. It is said that Mr. Carnegie authorized the expenditure of $10,000,000 more. The Carnegie schools, which are car ing for 1,200 students, have been found altogether inadequate to the demands, and Mr. Carnegie has held several con ferences with trustees regarding the best way to extend the schools. About $lO,- 000,000 has been expended already on the schools, and those in charge have not been hampered for funds.
