Herald Wants
The womm who nev»r reads ad
vertisements probably patronizes the
merchant who never advertises —ls
there )g such a woman and such u
merchant.
If you don't want It badly enough to
advertise for it then quit thinking
about It all!
Every day In this city somebody
buys some property. Nine times out
of ten the transaction Is Influenced, If
not wholly brought about, through
newspaper advertising,
Sometimes a man will expect a want
ad. to finish a task In a day which
has baffled him for six months—and
Ihe funny thing about II Is that Him
want ad, will often do it!
The man who noted the curious co
incidence that nuarly all big cities
happened to be located on rivers, la
apt, some of these days, to uncover
the fact that all big stores happen to
be big advertisers.

questions affecting your dally life and

"At Th* French Ban"
Miss Fanny Rice, the American star
who will appear at The Grand tonight
is a firm believer in American actors
not only learning their profession at
home, but also In their remaining at
home to appear before and entertain
their own people. Miss Rice is weil
qualified to speak on this subject, for
she has been an unquestioned success
both in her own country and abroad.
"It seems to me,” said Miss Rice, in
a recent interview “that ther e is no
more regrettable spectacle than to see
♦he young man or young woman who
feels that h e or she must go obroad to
fit herself for opera or the dramtlc
stage. My observation has been that
there are just as good artists in our
own America as there are in England
Germany, France or anywhere else.
And it is a fact not to be disputed
that the American audiences are just
as appreciative as any others in the
world. I hav e always met with the
most generous and hospitable treat
ment abroad, but I have never been
half so happy appearing before a
foreign audience as when 1 have been
trying to entertain my own peopie.
My advice to the young man or wo
man who wants to adopt the stage as
a profession, is to learn their trade
at home, then go as an experienced
actor for the personal pleasure there
Is in it to appear before foreigners.
Prices for tonight, Orchestra $1.50
and $1.00; Balcony 75c and 50c;
Gallery 35c and 25c
Countess Olgo Von Hatzfeldt in "A
Daughter of America”
Irving Brooks the German comedian
with Countess Olga von Hatzfeldt in
the forthcoming production of “A
Daughter of America" received his
early theatrical experience in the dra
matic in support of such stars as Ma
dame Modjeska, Henrietta Crosman,
and Cecil! Loftus. Given a thorough
stock experience also it is small
wonder with his dialect and funny
mannerisms that h e is today known
as one of th e best exponents of Ger
man comedy on the American stage.
His methods are quiet but penetrat
ing, he never resorts to slapsticks or
stage fails.
Seats on sale now at the box office.
Prices, orchestra, $1.50 and SI.OO.
Balcony, 75c and 50c Gallery, 35 and
