me< ting of the directors of the Ceot-!
gia Carolina Fair association held yes
terday afternoon at « o clock in the
offices of the Chamber of Commerce,
the fair this season will he one of the
greatest In the south. Dr. J. E. Green, 1
representing the farmers, spoke in an
enthusiastic vein of the agricultural
displays which would he exhibited
and declared that, the eight clubs in
his organization would put on the best
exhibits ever seen in this section of
the south.
The poultry show, which promises
to"T>e one of the leading attractions yf
the fair, will no doubt be one of the
greatest poultry displays to he seen
In the south this fall. The directors
appropriated S4OO more to he used ‘if
equlpipng the poultry building a*u
this season there will be 1,500 coops
In th ( . building.
The free amusement feature will i
be great, according to plans outlined.
The sunt of SI,OOO was appropriated
for this purpose by the directors.
The chrysanthemum show will no
doubt prove another great attraction
and Mr. ft. C- Berckmans, who will
have charg,. of the show, has already
sent out advance sheets describing
the display.
Th ( . meeting was largely attended ,
and it was decided by the directors i
that weekly instead of monthly meet
ings should be held hereafter in view
of the fact that the dale of the fair is
getting nearer.

AN ARMY DESERTER
HAS SURRENDERED
Tired Roaming Around as
a Deserter, so He Surren
dered.
ATLANTA. Ga. Stating that he
was tired roaming ar-.und the word
as a deserter from his nat'eu's army,
Clarence Culpepper walked into the
police station Wednesday afternoon
und surrendered to Officer C. C. Ted
der. He stated that, though he did
not like army life, he would rather
be where he really belonged than
beating his way all over the coun
try.
Culpepper is a native of Columbus,
Ga., and enlisted in the army one
year ago. His command was sent to
Seattle. Wash., and there the young
man remained until June, when he de
serted. Since leaving his company he
has been In every state east of the
Mississippi river and also many west
ern states. From New York he went
to Columbus. Ga., and after paying his
relatives a short visit came to Atlan
ta and surrendered.
Officer Tedder left with his prison
er for Philadelphia this morning. He
will be turned over to the officers
at this post and they will send him
hack to his command.

tol. was given a preliminary trial be
fore Judge Bennett Friday afternoon.
A judgment was rendered charging
him with involuntary manslaughter,
in the commission of an unlawful
act.

failed to give it and was returned in
jail.
