THE TWO HIGHWAYMEN.
(By Wilfred Sea wen Blunt.)
1 long have had a quarrel set with
Time,
Because ho robbed me. Every day
of life
Was wrested from me after bitter
strife;
I never yet could see the sun go
down
But I was angry in my heart, nor
hear
The loaves fall in the wind without
a tear
Over the dying Summer. I have
known
No truce with Time nor Time's ac
complice, Death.
The fair world is the witness of a
crime
Repeated every hour. For life and
breath
Are sweet to all who live; and bit
terly
The voice of these robbers of the
heath
Sound in each ear and chill the pas
ser-by,
What have we done to thee, thou
monstrous Time?
J’hat have done to Death, that we
must die?

Minutes from Broadway." <
Wednesday night—The big <
New York hit, "The Wolf.” <

“Forty-five Minutes From Broadway."
George M Cohan's cleverest music
play “Forty-five Minutes from Broad
way," with the famous comedian,
Scott Welch, and Cohan and Harris’
splendid company and production,
will be seen at the Grand next Mon
day night.
"Forty-five Minutes from Broad
-1 way,” which has a real plot of inter
esting development and just enough
catchy music to introduce some strik
ing song hits, is wonderfully diversi
j fled in composition. It Is one roar
| of laughs in the comedy scenes, thril.
I ling in' its melodramatic moments,
! and heart-stirring in some moments
of real pathos.
Frances Gordon impresses the ver
satility of her art more strongly on
her creation of the role of “Plain
i Mary" than anything she has under-
I taken. It is a great character as
! played by her, this plain, loyal-heart
ed domestic, and especially convinc
ing In some of the pathetic scenes.
Scott Welch as ex-sport, "Kid Burns"
with his wonderful slang phrases, so
expressively given, and with his hon
est-hearted ways, has made an im
mense hit. The music principally
containing two great songs by Miss
Gordon, “Mary Is a Grand Old Name,”
and “So Long Mary,” and the title
song. “Forty-five Minutes From Broad
way,” has gained the popular fancy.
The supporting cast includes, Mary
E. Cunard, Elizabeth Drew, Susan
Chicnell, Ninon De Varenne, Eugene
MacGregor. James H. Manning, Jas.
H. Davett, Harry Gwynette and Ar
chie MacKenzie, Jr.

The scenery, mechanical, transfor
mation and trick changes have always
been one of the “Devil's Auction’s"
strongest features, a fact fully appre
ciated by its management and not
lost sight of in this the 2Gth edi

Quite a number of new scenes and
effects have been prepared, notably
“The Devil’s Volcano,” with marvel
ous electric effects; "The Realms of
Mephisto,” introducing at the finale
of this scene a most original and

comedy trick scenes, “The Gates of
the Castle Morpheus,” and “The
