the exercises of the Classical Department
will be resumed at the Sandhills, under

Mr. Biantly, and yill co.itinuc at that

School will likewise bo opened on the
first Monday in July at the Academy in this
city, under the miperintendancc of Mr
Cook. Tickets will be issued for four
months in t he Classical Department; and in
the English Depaitment; by the quarter,

"FROM tlse Militia Law of the State of
Georgia, passed the 19th day of Decetn
’ ber, 18i6,‘ published by order of the Regi
mental Court of Enquiry of the 10th Re
giment Georgia Militia;
Sect. 8. And he it further enacted, That
when a vacancy shall happen by death,
resignation, or otherwise, of an;, comman
ding officer of a regiment or battalion,
such vacancy shall be filled by the elec
tion cf the pei’sojs subject to do militia
duty, who will become subject tn the com
mand of such field officer when cl.ctcd, 1
under the following rules and restrictions,
that is to say* Any two or more cup
tains within such regiments! or i.ait.dion
district, not being themselves candidates,
shall give twenty Rays public notice, in
every company district within the same,
of the time and place for holding such e-
Icctions; and they, with any two or more
justices who are'not candidates, shall pre
side ab tiie election, and the said presiding
captains and jus ices shall, within 3d days
thereafter, certify under their hands and
seals, the person or persons having the
highest number of votes, ami the state of
the poll so taken, shall be transmitted to
the commander in chief, who shall, within
ten days after said transmission, commis
sion the person or persons so elected; and
that in regimental districts, the brigadier
general shall appoint the time and place
at which said elections shall be held: Pro
vided nevertheless, that if two or more coun
ties compose a regiment, in that case the
election shall be held at the several
battalion muster grounds on the same day,
and the result of each election be sent to
the governor, who shall commission as a
foresaid.
Sect. 24- And be it further enacted, That
the respective regimental courts of enqui
ry shall annually apnojat by ballot a clerk
and provest martial, uTip shall attend the
courts herein before directed to be held,
and it shall be the duty of such clu k to
keep a fair record of all tlie proceedings
cf said court, and within ten days after ev
cry battalion and regimental court of en
quiry (in counties containing but one bat
talion) to make out a fair iist of all fines
assessed by such battalion or regimental
courts of enquiry, designating therein the
captain’s district, in which each delin
quent resides, and transmit the same to
Uie pay-master of the regiment, who is
hereby authorised to receive the fines
which any delinquent may voluntari'y pay,
and such delinquent upon producing the
pay-master’s receipt to tiie clerk, shall be
credited therefor without any further costs
or trouble; and the said clerk shall, with

qutry make out warrants of distress & saic
against every delinquent on whom lines
have been assessed (and who have not
produced the pay-master’s receipt as a
foresaid) sigaied by himself, and counter

which the defaulters respectively reside,
and take the constables receipt therefor,
who shall proceed to levy the same on the
goods and chatties otsucti delinquent, and

turns of such warrants to the cleik within
two months after receiving the same, and
shall be entitled to the same costs as are
allowed by law in civil cases of an equal
dignity, and subject to the same rules,
restrictions and pt naldos, as if such war
rants had been iisued »y any justice of
