The hostility of our climate to strangers, evinced.n the early and lamented death of Mr. l uck and al so by other numerous facts, irnUiced the Board to enquire for some suitable per mn who had been previously accustomed to the climate, to undertake the manage ment of the school. Such a person was found in Mr. Joel Gatlin who being dis posed to give his whole attention to such an object for a length of time, was imme diately sent on to New-York to obtain the practical knowledge requisite for the superintendance ol a Lancasterian School. Id 4t . / ■ - Lost, ON the 30lh Sept. 1822, between A tliens and Lexington, a small leather Pocket Book, containing to the amount of eight dollars and fifty cents, or theit abouts, in money, and other papers, a moug which was a note of hand given by William .Vlanifee to George Willson, or bearer, for one hundred dollars, dated sometime in March, 1821, and due 12 months after date. All persons are hereby cautioned against trading for said note, and Wm. Manifee is cautioned not to pay it to any other person except the subscriber. Any person finding said pocket book and leaving it al Vlaj. L. A. Erwin’s, Athens, with the note and oilier papers, may have the money that was iii the pocket hook for finding the same.
