ON Wednesday night last, as thesub scribor was journey ing from the city "f Augusta towards Petersburg!), about 14 roues from the city of Augusta, He was Mucked by two men armed with pistols, and ordered to deliver up his money and ™ r? n, and upon refusing to do so, these fuffians blindfolded the subscriber, cac hed whithersoever they pleased, & final la about two o’clock in the morning, took from the subscriber his horse sadde snd bridle and six hundred and se 'snty eight dollars in money, besides sundry amides of ciolhiug. IN announcing his intention, he deems it unnecessary to publish a political creed—to swell a prosperous with pro fessions of his republicanism—of bis at tachment to the principles of our go vernment —nr of his adherence to this or : that set of men or measures. He con siders no other guarantee of the sound ness of his Polilirt, requisite,' than to say that he predicates h's claim to public patronage on their conformity to that li beral, high minded patriotism which has ever characterized the citizens of Soutb- Carolina. Without assuming to give a tone to the sentiments of the People, he will bo content to become theiforgan. The “ Hambuiui Gazette” is in tended chiefly as a vehicle of commerci al information for a young and growing Towi», that has become peculiarly inter esting to the State at large, from (be vast advantages it promises in the en hancement of hor trade. Hamburg seems destined by nature to become the connecting link between Charleston and an extensive populous, and wealthy back country. The Northern, Southern, and Western Midis three limes a week, and the Charleston, and upper country Mails twice a week, will atibrd every facility for receiving and dispensing the earliest , news, political or commercial, and ren der this paper particularly valuable to the citizens in the Interior. Notices of the state of foreign and Jo t mestic markets—of the most interesting events of the day, abroad and at home— interspersed with selections ol light rca 1 ing, agricultural information kc. toge ther with such original matter ns may be offered on subjects of general interest and utility, and the favors of advertis ing friends, will constitute-the content ol G*e paper.
